The King of the Ranges Stockman's Challenge and Bush Festival is held annually in September at Murrurundi NSW. This widely enjoyed agricultural and community event recognises and showcases the traditional skills of Australian Stockmen and women over an exciting and intense 3 day challenge. Tales of local stockman, Archie 'Bung' McInnes (b. 1885) inspire the King of the Ranges legend. Archie spent

his life working on local cattle stations and for his skills as a stockman and champion buckjumper is known throughout the Hunter as 'King of the Ranges'. The King of the Ranges mission is to to preserve and bring to public attention the traditional skills of Australian stockmanship and bushcraft.

Introducing three more of our 14 re-trainers in the Off-The-Track Thoroughbred Challenge.
It’s all about showcasing horsemanship, training techniques and life after racing.

Come along to the Bengalla King of the Ranges Stockman’s Challenge on 25-27 September 2026 to see all that these horse and rider combinations can achieve.

The Team Thoroughbred NSW horses in our Off-The-Track TB Challenge have all settled in with their ‘re-trainers’ and are starting to learn new skills.

The Off-The-Track Challenge will happen alongside our other divisions of the Bengalla King of the Ranges Stockman’s Challenge, on the last weekend of September, in Murrurundi.

We hope to see you there to see what life after racing looks like for these gorgeous horses. It’s all thanks to the support of Racing NSW, Team Thoroughbred NSW and Mitavite.

🚨We’ve got our first Off The Track Thoroughbred Challenge competitor update 🐴
Danielle and mare, Stuart Island (aka Shiraz), seem to be settling into their partnership well after just under a month together.
Shiraz is showing that she has a big heart and always tries to please. Danielle’s been focusing on whip cracking and opening gates with her because Shiraz initially found them challenging, but as you can see, progress has been swift. 👏
Danielle said, she’s genuinely a pleasant girl to have around. You can see this duo at the Scone Horse Festival’s Equine Extravaganza on Saturday the 9th of May.
