The storm may have passed, but our volunteers haven't stopped.

After contributing more than 230 volunteer hours during last weekend's severe weather, our members were back at it again this weekend—this time in training.

Five of our newest members spent the weekend undertaking their Basic General Rescue course, while our experienced trainers delivered the first of two weekends of General Rescue training for members from Melville SES and other South Metro units.

From storm response to rescue training, our volunteers are always learning, improving, and preparing for the next call for help.

👏 Thanks to everyone who gave up their weekend to train, learn and share their knowledge. 💛🧡

⚠️ MELVILLE!!! ⚠️

A storm is coming, the rain will fall,
So take some time to prep it all.

Tie trampolines down nice and tight,
Or they might take off in the middle of the night.

Clear your gutters, charge your phone,
Don’t wait until the storm has blown.

Heavy rain and winds are due,
Melville, there's a storm coming through. ⛈️

A little prep can go a long way,
To keep your family safe this way.

Tonight, we give a special shout out to two of our long-term legends, Greg and John.

Greg and John were recently awarded the NSW Premier’s Flood Emergency Citation, in recognition for their contribution and service to the 2022-2023 NSW Floods emergency response.

Both Greg and John travelled interstate to join the efforts in the cleanup for the Lismore flood in Feb 2022, where the Wilson River peaked at 14.4m, and then again in May 2023, they attended the Taree floods, caused by a low-pressure trough resulting in over 400mm of rain in just 2 days.

In both cases, SES volunteers were involved in the cleanup phase, which involved the strip out of damaged houses and businesses, to remove all items flooded, including wall sheeting, furniture, bedding, appliances and more.

In addition, the floods resulted in multiple trees down and temporary structures being swept away, which also had to be addressed.

The award was presented to Greg and John by District Officer, Marcus Franceschini, on behalf of Chris Minns MP (Premier of New South Wales), Jihad Dib MP (Minister for Emergency Services) and Mike Wassing AFSM (Commissioner, NSW SES).

Huge congratulations to both of you!! 👏 🧡
