🌏 First Impressions of Mundubbera

For Multicultural Queensland Month, we caught up with some of our newer community members from Taiwan 🇹🇼, Indonesia 🇮🇩, Japan 🇯🇵 and South Korea 🇰🇷.

We asked them a simple question: How does Mundubbera feel so far?

💬 “Comfortable.”

💬 “Convenient.”

💬 “The people around you are pretty easy-going.”

💬 “In Mundubbera, it’s pretty safe.”

For people who have lived and travelled in different parts of Australia, these first impressions offer a fresh perspective on our town.

Sometimes feeling welcome starts with very simple things — a friendly conversation at the shops, feeling comfortable around town, or meeting people who make a new place feel a little more familiar. 💛

Whether someone is here for a short time or choosing to stay longer, every person brings a different story and experience to our community.

🌏 Community Voices | Meet Nancy from Indonesia 🇮🇩

For Multicultural Queensland Month, we’re sharing the voices of some of our wonderful NBCS regulars and what makes Mundubbera and our community special to them. 💛

Today, we’d like you to meet Nancy, originally from Indonesia:

“I choose to stay in Mundubbera because I love how peaceful and quiet it is. The people are friendly, and there’s a really good community vibe here.

I like NBCS because the community provides support and opportunities for people in many different ways. For example, I joined the Chinese class. Even though I can already speak Chinese, the most important thing for me is that it gives me a chance to build relationships, meet new people, and get to know each other.

I also really enjoy the Culture Cafe because it gives people in the community an opportunity to learn about and appreciate different cultures. I really love being part of it, and I hope I can join more activities and events organised by NBCS in the future. 🥰”

🧋 More than just learning a language!

Our Chinese classes give local community members the chance to learn useful words and phrases while also exploring Chinese and Taiwanese culture.

From practising Chinese characters to enjoying cultural crafts, food and celebrations, every class is an opportunity to learn something new and connect with others.

Language learning helps us understand not only how people speak, but also how they see the world. 🀄

🇦🇺 How do friendships start in Australia?

Usually… with a lot of small talk. 😆

A quick “How ya going?”, a chat about the weather, seeing each other again at a community event — and one day, you realise you’ve made a new mate. ☕👋

You don’t need perfect English or a big conversation. Just keep showing up and say hello. 💛
