💸 “Why is so much tax coming out of my pay?”
If you’re on a 417 or 462 Working Holiday visa, you’ve probably asked this at least once

In Australia, backpackers pay a different tax rate from Australian residents — and if your employer doesn’t register you correctly, you could be taxed MUCH more than you should be 👀

This post explains the basic backpacker tax system
Including tax rates, tax returns, TFN, and common mistakes to avoid.

💡 Important reminder:
If you don’t give your employer your TFN, tax can be withheld at 47% !

And yes — many backpackers can still get a tax refund after lodging a tax return

💬 Did Australian tax confuse you when you first started working here?

🧳 A lot of people think insurance only means car insurance
But when living in Australia, there are actually many different types of insurance that can help protect you from unexpected costs

Especially for visa holders, students, backpackers, or seasonal workers — some insurance is very important (and sometimes required for your visa too )

This post shares a few other common insurances in Australia
Including health cover, travel insurance, and income protection.

💡 Sometimes you don’t think about insurance… until something goes wrong

💬 Did you have insurance before coming to Australia?
Or was this all new to you too?

🚗 In Australia, car insurance can be a bit confusing at first 😵‍💫

A lot of people think:
“I already paid my rego… so I’m fully covered, right?”

But actually, CTP insurance and car insurance are different things
This post explains the basic types of car insurance in Australia

Especially if you’ve just arrived or bought your first car here, it’s good to understand what is — and isn’t — covered.

💡 One important thing:
CTP is included in your registration in Queensland, but it only covers legal liability for personal injury. It does NOT cover damage to your own car or someone else’s property.

💬 Do you have car insurance in Australia? Was it confusing for you at the beginning too?

🏦 One of the first things many people do in Australia?
Open a bank account 💳
But when you first arrive, even simple things can feel confusing…
“What documents do I need?”
“Which bank should I choose?”
“What is a TFN and why does the bank ask for it?” 😵‍💫

This post shares some simple information about opening a bank account in Australia 🇦🇺

✨ Tip: Don’t forget to give your bank your TFN after you receive it — this can help you avoid higher tax on your bank interest.

💬 Which Australian bank do you use? Would you recommend it to other newcomers?

💰 Insurance & Financial Basics in Australia

When people first arrive in Australia,
most of us think about finding work first…
then suddenly realise there are SO many financial things to understand
Bank accounts, TFN, insurance, super — it can feel confusing at the beginning

This week, we’re talking about some simple financial basics that can help you save money and avoid stress 👇

✔️ Open an Australian bank account
✔️ Apply for a TFN (Tax File Number)
✔️ Learn what insurance you may need
✔️ Understand your superannuation

💡 Why does it matter?
Unexpected costs in Australia can be very expensive — especially medical bills, car accidents, or damage to property

Insurance helps protect you from large unexpected costs by paying a smaller amount regularly

👉 And remember — some insurance is required by law, not optional
