For 25 years, Australian inventor and philanthropist George Lewin has supported rainforest conservation.

As the inventor of the Triton Workcentre, George’s life has long been shaped by timber, craftsmanship and a deep respect for the natural world. Through the George Lewin Foundation, his support has helped protect and restore rainforest, particularly in northern New South Wales.

Today, George is continuing that legacy on his own, by planting 8,000 cabinet timber trees, including cedars, teaks, silky oaks and hoop pines.

It’s a powerful example of passion, profession and purpose coming together to help forests thrive for future generations.

🌿 Today, 10 rainforest properties covering more than 25 hectares of irreplaceable lowland rainforest have been formally dedicated as Daintree National Park (CYPAL) and returned to the care of their Traditional Owners, the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people.

Nine of these properties sit on Aunty Lyn's Bubu - her Country: "It's what the ancestors would have wanted. It's what I want to see, Bama (people) caring for Bubu (Country). Having this Bubu returned to Bama allows healing to occur. It gives me hope for the future."

100% community-funded, by people like YOU who believed this rainforest was worth saving.

As we celebrate this milestone achievement, we know one thing for sure. We couldn't have done this without you 💚

Restoring rainforest takes time, care and a lot of muddy hands 🌱

Tree planting is one way we help fragmented rainforests recover. By planting native species, we can rebuild habitat, strengthen wildlife corridors, protect waterways and give the forest the best chance to regenerate naturally.

Every tree planted helps bring life back to the landscape, from insects and fungi to birds, mammals and future rainforest giants.

Rainforest regeneration is long-term work, but every seedling is a step towards a healthier, more connected forest.

The work of a Tooth-billed Bowerbird (Scenopoeetes dentirostris) 🌿

Also known as the “Stagemaker”, the male creates a display court by clearing an area beneath the rainforest canopy and decorating it with fresh green leaves, all carefully placed pale-side up. He even replaces old leaves with fresh ones to keep the display looking its best.

When a female approaches, the male hops down from a nearby perch and begins an elaborate courtship display on his rainforest stage.

Found only in the mountain rainforests of northeast Queensland, this unique species is endemic to Australia and is currently listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List.

Meet the Swamp Wallaby (Wallabia bicolor), often spotted along the edges of forests and dense undergrowth across eastern Australia. Unlike kangaroos that usually move in groups, Swamp Wallabies are mostly solitary and spend much of their time browsing on leaves, shrubs, ferns and native plants.

They play an important role in rainforest and forest ecosystems by helping shape vegetation through grazing and dispersing seeds as they move through the landscape.

Before we purchase a rainforest property through our Save the Daintree Rainforest program, we carry out detailed vegetation surveys to better understand what is being protected 🌿🗒️

These surveys help identify threatened species, important rainforest ecosystems, wildlife habitat, and the overall conservation significance of a property. Sometimes they reveal extraordinary discoveries, from rare plants to vital cassowary habitat.

Every property tells a story, and these surveys help ensure the land is protected for the biodiversity it supports, now and into the future.

By purchasing freehold land for conservation, we are helping protect some of the oldest and most biologically rich rainforests on Earth.

The Gondwana Rainforests of Australia are a UNESCO World Heritage-listed network of over 40 national parks and reserves. Situated along the Great Dividing Range between northern NSW and Queensland, this area protects the world's most extensive subtropical rainforests. The region was named after the ancient Gondwana supercontinent, as it contains plants and wildlife that have survived virtually unchanged since the age of the dinosaurs.

Wollumbin (formerly Mount Warning) is the central remnant of an ancient shield volcano in northern New South Wales, rising 1,157 metres above sea level. It is a sacred place of deep significance to the Bundjalung Nation.
