🐾 24-HOUR BESS IN MULGOA — WHAT COULD IT MEAN FOR PEOPLE AND WILDLIFE?

A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is not simply something that sits quietly in a paddock. This large-scale facility will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, bringing industrial activity into an area that is currently home to people, native wildlife and important natural habitats.

For our community, it is important to understand the potential impacts before any decision is made.

🌙 LIGHT & NIGHT-TIME DISTURBANCE
Security lighting, operational lighting and other infrastructure could change the character of a naturally dark landscape. Spot lights will run ALL NIGHT. Artificial light at night can potentially disrupt nocturnal animals that rely on darkness for feeding, movement and shelter.

🔊 NOISE & HUMMING
Battery systems, cooling equipment, transformers and other electrical infrastructure can produce operational noise. A continuous hum will affect nearby residents and disturb wildlife, particularly in an otherwise quiet environment.

🦘 WILDLIFE & HABITAT
Mulgoa's bushland and open areas provide habitat and movement corridors for native animals. Construction and ongoing operation will disturb wildlife, fragment habitat or alter established movement patterns.

🔥 FIRE & EMERGENCY RISKS
Large lithium-ion battery installations require sophisticated fire prevention, monitoring and emergency-response systems. A battery fire can present significant challenges for emergency services, including the potential for toxic smoke and contaminated firefighting water.

👨‍👩‍👧 OUR COMMUNITY
People living nearby deserve to know what a 24-hour industrial facility could mean for their homes, families, sleep, environment and quality of life. Questions around noise, lighting, emergency access, fire safety and environmental impacts should be properly investigated and transparently addressed.

We are proudly a small community with a big heart. For decades we have, as a united collective stood together to prevent numerous attempts to overdevelop our Mulgoa Valley. A place we live in for its beauty and actually understand its value as a special sanctuary for animals plants and even us - humans, because we get to live here and enjoy this incredible place, so we want to ensure its cared for.

We understand its intrinsic value and unique attributes compared to other places and that its one of the last places out this far west that has not yet been overtly emcumbered by either industrialisation or urban sprawl (although its not too far off our doorstep) we know our neighbours love passing through and visiting Mulgoa too for that very reason, that its a place they can visit where it provides a sanctuary that holds these elements of open space, peaceful sounds and animals everywhere, birds, roo’s, ducks and more which the come here to enjoy and get away from the hustle and bustle of urban life.

But we have accomplished this as a community, all these little wins we have had, like stopping the cemetery which threatened the heritage property of Fernhill and Mulgoa Valley at large and also the large scale subdivision (I think there has been a few) this is due to every single person who lives here and cares about this place and how we have galvanised as community. We celebrate you and the incredible efforts and acts of care you have made to ensure Mulgoa is a place which stays protected in perpetuity for our future generations to enjoy. 🦔🌳🐨🦅🦆🦉🦜

Please check your letterbox for the new flyer we have been hand distributing to as many people as possible over the past week. If we have missed you, it's only because we've only had a few thousand printed. Every house in Mulgoa should have a flyer. Message us here directly if you'd like one brought around if you've somehow happened to have been missed and would like one. Also, if you would just like a small supply to give out to family/friends who are not in the areas, that can be arranged. Direct message us on the page.

We will continue to put copies of the flyer up at the Mulgoa shops at the locations stated in the picture below and I will also put some up at Glenmore park village shops at the Woolies supermarket front service counter.
