Cheers to 60 years 🥂

Sixty years ago, the CMRI Committee in Mudgee was built from something deeply personal, and it grew into something powerful.

A local group of people choosing to show up, year after year, to raise funds, spread awareness, and stand behind children’s medical research with real care and compassion.

From the early garden lunches under marquees filled with home grown flowers, to the many creative events that have become part of Mudgee’s social history, this committee has always been about community.

Friendship, generosity, and doing what we can for kids and families who need it most.

To our current committee, thank you for carrying the torch.

For continuing the tradition, keeping the message moving, and giving your time and heart to ensure this legacy doesn’t just stay in the past, it keeps doing good right now.

Here’s to 60 years of doing it for the kids, and to everyone who has been part of the story along the way.

Meet Charlie, one of our local CMRI Mudgee ambassadors, and a kid with a big heart and a very clear soft spot for dogs.

Charlie lives with cystic fibrosis and knows first-hand why research matters.

His family shared that gene therapy research, especially research that can improve lung treatments, gives hope to kids like Charlie and families like theirs.

If you ever spot Charlie out and about and you’ve got your dog with you, just know you’re about to make his day.

He loves dogs, and he’ll always want to stop for a pat.

When he’s not doing that, you’ll probably find him gaming, with favourites like Zelda and Minecraft.

Charlie’s school supports Jeans for Genes Day every year, raising money and even getting creative by making things out of denim, which feels very on brand for Mudgee.

A message from Charlie and his family:

“Thank you for all the help raising money for research for kids like me.”

And from Charlie: “I love that Mudgee comes together each year for Jeans for Genes. It makes me feel happy.”

To keep the 60s spirit going, Charlie’s favourite 1960s song is I Want You Back by The Jackson Five (1969), and he’s a big Michael Jackson fan.

Thank you for sharing your story with us, Charlie. You’re exactly why we keep doing it for the kids.

Meet our MC: Tom Tilley

We’re so grateful to have Tom Tilley coming “home” to Mudgee to MC our Twist & Shout 60th Celebration.

Tom grew up right here, attending Mudgee Public School and Mudgee High School, where he was proudly named School Captain in 1998.

A true local at heart, his childhood was full of sport and country life, alongside a deep connection to our community.

Since then, Tom has gone on to make his mark on the national stage.

Many will know him as the former host of Hack on Triple J, where he helped shape conversations for a generation and interviewed everyone from Prime Ministers to global icons.

He’s also worked across radio, television and podcasting, and in 2022 published his memoir Speaking in Tongues.

Despite all he’s achieved, Tom has never lost that grounded Mudgee spirit, which is exactly why we’re so excited to have him leading the room for such a meaningful milestone.

Thank you, Tom, for coming back to celebrate 60 years of CMRI fundraising in Mudgee with us.

We can’t wait.
