205 Army Cadet Unit - Mudgee

13/10/2026

*** 205 ACU Mudgee would like to congratulate Cadet Lane and Cadet Rogers on successfully completing their Core 1A training and progressing to Core 1B. ***

This is an important milestone in their Australian Army Cadets journey, marking their transition from Cadet Recruit to Cadet.

Both cadets have now earned the privilege of wearing their Cadet rank slides and the Australian flag patch on their left sleeve.

Core 1A is the beginning of a cadet's journey, introducing them to the values, skills and experiences that make the Australian Army Cadets such a rewarding youth development program.

Through their training, cadets develop confidence, resilience, teamwork, self-discipline and leadership skills, while building friendships, learning to support one another and challenging themselves to try new things.

Well done, Cadet Lane and Cadet Rogers!

***** Thinking about joining the Australian Army Cadets? *****

Young people can join from 12 years of age, provided they turn 13 during the same calendar year.

*** FINAL WEEK OF THE 205 ACU SPECIAL FORCES CHALLENGE ***

After four weeks of challenges, teamwork, problem-solving and some very close competition, the 205 ACU Special Forces Challenge has officially come to an end!
For their final challenge, our teams were given real maps of well-known Sydney locations and tasked with turning them into military-style mud maps.
The challenge tested their ability to identify important features, simplify complex information, use appropriate symbols and create a map that someone else could actually follow.

WEEK 4 – MUD MAP CHALLENGE
Titans – Luna Park, Sydney - 65 points
Vipers – Taronga Zoo, Sydney - 62.5 points
Phantoms – Sydney Olympic Park - 54.5 points + 5 difficulty points = 59.5 points

Phantoms were awarded an additional 5 difficulty points in recognition having to complete the challenge without their senior cadet available for the activity.
FINAL LEADERBOARD
VIPERS – 137.5 points
TITANS – 135 points
PHANTOMS – 114.5 points

After FOUR weeks of competition, VIPERS ARE OUR 205 ACU SPECIAL FORCES CHALLENGE CHAMPIONS!

Only 2.5 points separated Vipers and Titans in the end — an incredibly close finish!
Across the four weeks, our cadets have been tested in navigation, observation, communication, code-breaking, intelligence, problem-solving and teamwork.

A big thank you to our parents and carers who donated all sorts of bits and pieces for our cadets to use when constructing their mud maps. Thanks to your generosity, 205 ACU now has a substantial mud map kit full of resources that can be used again and again for future training activities. We really appreciate your support!
Every team had their strengths, every team earned their points, and every team contributed to a fantastic competition.

Congratulations Vipers, Titans and Phantom — Special Forces Challenge complete!

*** 3RD WEEK OF SPECIAL FORCES CHALLENGES ***
Week Three of the 205 ACU Special Forces Challenge saw our teams tackle Grid references & Intelligence, with activities designed to test navigation, observation, communication and problem-solving skills.
Grid Coordinates – locating hidden checkpoints and retrieving information.
Ciphers & Puzzles – racing against the clock to crack codes, solve puzzles and decipher hidden messages.
Radio Communications – identifying what information was operationally important and separating key details from everything else.
WEEK 3 RESULTS
Titans – 19 points
Vipers – 17 points
Phantom – 14 points
And those results have tightened up our overall competition!
OVERALL LEADERBOARD – AFTER WEEK 3
Vipers – 75 points (58 + 17)
Titans – 70 points (51 + 19)
Phantom – 55 points (41 + 14)
The Vipers are still holding the lead, but the Titans have closed the gap to just five points, while Phantom still have plenty of opportunities to make their move.
Three weeks down... and the Special Forces Challenge is definitely not over yet with one week to go!
