Catch it in the Catchment is back for 2026, running between 23–29 November in partnership with Clean Up Australia and ReThink Waste Tasmania.

This project empowers everyone who lives, works or plays in the Kanamaluka / Tamar Estuary catchment to take action against litter pollution and protect our waterways.
Over the years, more than 2,000 people have collected almost 5 tonnes of litter across the Tamar Valley – a fantastic result made possible by many hands working together.

Want to get involved? Simply register your own clean-up event with Clean Up Australia using the event name template Catch it in the Catchment [group or place name], wherever and whenever suits you during Catch it in the Catchment week.

🐦 Be part of the 2026 Aussie Bird Count!

Join a bird survey in the Tamar Valley during the Aussie Bird Count, 19–25 October. No previous birding experience required!

The TEER Program is working with Tamar NRM and BirdLife Tasmania to grow a community of local birdwatchers across the Tamar Valley. By getting more people involved in bird surveys, we can build our knowledge of local bird populations and better understand how the birds of Kanamaluka / Tamar are faring over time.

Thanks to the great team of TAFE Conservation and Ecosystem Management students that assisted with planting over 200 Tassie native species and helped remove a load of gorse from the Youngtown Regional Reserve last week. Tamar NRM had a great day hosting a Source to Sea excursion with an enthusiastic and curious group of home school students and their families yesterday. Thanks to Bell Bay Aluminium for funding the transport and to Arthur from City of Launceston Official and Geoff -walkabout tours for sharing your knowledge. We followed the journey of the Kingsmeadows Rivulet from Kate Reed Reserve to the North Esk at Queechy Lake learning about water bugs, aboriginal culture, waste, native plants, stormwater and SO much more.

Join researchers from CSIRO, Landcare Tasmania and a local w**d expert for an afternoon at Low Head, learning about African boxthorn management and a new nationally approved biocontrol.

Discover how the African boxthorn rust fungus (Puccinia rapipes) can be used as part of an integrated approach to managing this invasive w**d.
