Today is the first day out of Fire Danger Season! 🔥🚒
However please monitor conditions and check the CFS website before starting any burns.

YOUR BURN PILE CAN WAIT

Your awareness and actions will help prevent any unwanted fires. 🔥

⚠️ Elevated Fire Weather Forecast for Tomorrow ⚠️

While tomorrow officially marks the end of the Fire Danger Season, dry conditions remain across the state and continue to pose an increased fire risk.

This week alone, our volunteers have responded to more than 14 grass fires across the state, highlighting how quickly fires can start and spread.

🔥 With the risk still in the landscape, please take caution and remain vigilant when conducting any activity involving fire.

If conducting a burn, ensure a responsible person is in attendance at all times, water or a suitable fire extinguisher is available, and regularly check once the fire is extinguished to ensure it hasn't reignited. Ensure you follow any local restrictions or guidelines.

Your actions can help prevent unwanted fires and keep our communities safe.

Sneak preview of an upcoming fundraiser.......

We were very lucky to be gifted more than 150 lemon trees (Eureka and Lisbon) from a local resident. Today, we potted them up to 200mm pots in Jeffries Premium potting mix which Jeffries very generously donated to us.

A few members will be watering these trees in preparation for the Great Lemon Tree sale in October.

Every dollar from the sale of these trees will go directly to us to enable us to purchase additional equipment that helps us do our job better.

Last night we set up in Dunnfield Estate, making the most of the opportunity to check hydrants while also sharpening our pump operation skills and hose lays. 🚒

It was a great night of training with fantastic teamwork and collaboration from everyone involved. Nights like these keep us prepared and connected as a brigade.

Well done, team 👏

Great advice from our friends at Hermitage CFS and the SA State Emergency Service

Here’s the updated Flood Watch area in South Australia. This image shows just how much of the state is covered in the Bureau of Meteorology Flood Watch issued today.

Yep, that’s right, pretty much the whole state! So, it’s important for all of us to be prepared.

The highest rainfall totals are forecast over North East Pastoral district during today. However, rainfall is forecast to extend southwards from Friday and over the weekend. Accumulated rainfall totals will be significant.

What can you do to be prepared and stay safe?
> Where it is safe to do so, clear gutters, downpipes and drains to prevent water damage to your home or property
> Check whether you need sandbags. If your property is prone to flooding, SES sandbag pod locations are listed on the SES website: https://www.ses.sa.gov.au/incidents-and-warnings/about-sa-ses-sandbag-locations
> Never drive, ride or walk through floodwater.
> Keep children well away from floodwater, creeks and storm drains.
> If you’re travelling, ensure you have adequate food and water for the trip. Visit the South Australia Police website for more information about holiday and remote travel safety: www.police.sa.gov.au/your-safety/crime-prevention-and-security/holiday-and-remote-travel-safety
> Take extra care, drive to the conditions, and adhere to road closures. You can check road closures via SA Infrastructure and Transport TrafficSA website: www.traffic.sa.gov.au
> Check on friends, family and neighbours during and after this rain event to ensure they’re safe and doing OK

There's been plenty of talk about the use of sirens by CFS in the media the past few days.

For those who aren't aware, the siren we have at the station is used to alert you of an emergency in the local area. It is not used to alert CFS members they are required at the station as it was many years ago. We now have pagers and phone apps for this.

We test the siren weekly at 7pm on a Tuesday to ensure it is in working order.

However, we are planning a change to the way we test it. When it is used to alert you of immediate danger it will go for several minutes where it wails; the volume goes up and down. Our current testing regime is different. We allow it to go to fulll volume and hold it there for 5 seconds and then switch it off which results in the slow decrease in volume.

We believe we should be testing it in the same way as it is used to alert you. As such, we plan on changing to 3 x wails ie allowing the volume to go up and down 3 times.

This change will not occur until the end of the current fire season on 30th of April. We will make sure we let you know closer to the time of the change.

If you hear the siren at any time other than Tuesday 7pm, we are alerting to you an emergency. This is most likely to be a fire although it has been used in the past for flooding.

If you have any feedback on the use of the siren, please either contact us through Facebook, drop in on a Tuesday night at 7pm or call the Captain (Mark Smith) on 0️⃣4️⃣8️⃣0️⃣5️⃣9️⃣7️⃣9️⃣3️⃣3️⃣
