Mount Pleasant Men's Shed

Mount Pleasant Men's Shed To promote men's health and wellbeing in our district, and to support our mates.

Bob Long asked the question... is there a need for a group where Men, in particular, can meet and enjoy comaraderie... in Mount Pleasant. The Lions Club group had closed some years ago and it seemed the answer was 'Yes'. There appeared to be no suitable venue for the purpose, and as a result, regular meetings have been held since November 2012, with a view to actually building a Shed where Mens Sh

ed members may meet and decide on the direction they wish to go. Whilst fundraising towards their Shed, the group has taken on many community jobs, and planned a Shed. The first hurdle was finding a suitable site, but this has now been decided with a lease of Barossa Council land, at Old Talunga Park Road, adjacent to the Mount Pleasant Bowling Club. Plans for a Shed have been submitted to Council and are now passed, and the footings for the Shed should soon be in place. In the meantime these individuals have come to know one another, and in many instances they would not have crossed paths in the ordinary day-to-day of living in the district. A project with the Mid-Murray Council, to restore the Rockleigh School, has netted them considerable funds, but also taught new skills and has given the group a pride in their abilities. As regular guardians of the Farmer's Market gates, they are becoming familiar to the Community and assist where-ever they are needed.

This week we’re celebrating Men’s Health Week (15–21 June)

It’s a great reminder for our Shed community to check in — with ourselves and our mates.
This year’s message is simple: See Your GP 🩺
Don’t put it off — a quick check-up now can make all the difference.

Have a chat at the Shed. Check in on a mate.

As Men’s Health Week approaches from 15–21 June, the Burpengary Men’s Shed is stepping up to support the wellbeing of local men with a friendly, community‑focused event. On Tuesday 16 June, from 9 am to 11 am, the Shed will host a free sausage sizzle, inviting men of all ages - along with families, friends, and supporters — to drop in, share a bite, and take part in an important conversation about health.

Men’s Health Week is a national initiative designed to shine a light on the physical, mental, and social challenges men often face. For the Burpengary Men’s Shed, it’s a natural fit. The Shed has long been a place where men can connect, learn new skills, and find mateship - all of which play a vital role in maintaining good health.

The event aims to create a relaxed, welcoming space where men can check in with one another and feel supported. Members say the sausage sizzle is about more than just a snag on bread. It’s an opportunity to encourage open conversations, break down barriers, and remind local men that support is always close by.

Rodney Hansen , the President of the Burpengary Men’s Shed says the heart of the event is connection.

“For a lot of blokes, it’s easy to put your head down and push through life without ever stopping to check in on yourself. Men’s Health Week reminds us that we don’t have to carry everything alone,” he said. “When men come together — even for something as simple as a sausage and a chat — you can see the weight lift. That sense of belonging, of being heard, can change someone’s whole day. That’s why our Shed is here, and why we’re inviting every man in our community to come along and be part of it.”

The Burpengary Men’s Shed welcomes everyone to come along, enjoy a relaxed morning, and help promote the message of Men’s Health Week: that staying healthy starts with connection, conversation, and community.
