Mount Nelson Community Association

Mount Nelson Community Association The Mount Nelson Community Association Inc (MNCA) was formed in February 2023.

The Mount Nelson Community Association (MNCA) is a group of Mount Nelson residents who formally came together in February 2023. We share a love for our beautiful suburb and want to help create a stronger sense of community and connection among the people who live here.

Yesterday, the Mount Nelson Community Association (MNCA) held an incredible event on Aboriginal bush tucker, facilitated by Kitana Mansell.

A huge thank you to Kitana for generously sharing her vast knowledge of bush food, culture, and connection to Country. More than 65 adults and children had a wonderful opportunity to learn from the best.

A big shout-out as well to the Sustainability Learning Centre staff for hosting us, and to all the wonderful MNCA volunteers and the Community STEM Grant that made this event possible.

This plan looks at how we move around our suburb: walking, cycling, traffic and safety.
It’s partly based on work the community association did with the community — so let’s make sure your voice is heard!

🎄✨ Tomorrow’s the day!

We’ve got all our fingers and toes crossed for fine weather for our Mount Nelson Carols in the Park🤞☀️

There’s no alternative venue, so please keep an eye on our page tomorrow for any weather updates.

If the weather plays along, it’s shaping up to be a really lovely community event — relaxed, family-friendly, and full of festive spirit.

There will also be a food van, thanks to The Culinary Kitchen.

Hope to see you there! 🎶🎅🏻🎄

🚨 One Week Left to Have Your Say! 🚨

The City of Hobart is asking for feedback on the Local Area Mobility Plan for Mount Nelson – and it’s quick and easy to take part.

All you need to do is drop a pin on a map and choose one of four options:
✔ Crossing the road feels unsafe
✔ Moving along the street feels unsafe
✔ Place I like to ride or walk
✔ Other issue or idea

Your input will directly shape council’s funding priorities for the next decade – so this is your chance to make sure Mount Nelson gets what it needs.

⏳ Don’t miss out – submissions close in just one week.

🍃Thank you to everyone who came to our AGM last Sunday!🍃

A big thank you to our guest speaker, Hobart City Councillor Bill Harvey, who gave us a very thoughtful and engaging presentation on plastics and Bio char.

Thank you also to Meg Webb - Independent for Nelson and Marcus Vermey MP who both found time in their very busy schedules to come along and support us.

We’d like to acknowledge and celebrate two committee members who are retiring from the committee this year:

🌟Mary Blake, our inaugural Secretary, whose energy and commitment has shaped the association from day one.
🌟Ngaire Donaghue, who was one of the people instrumental in getting the Garden Group up and running (and thriving).

We’re excited to announce our new committee for the year ahead:

✨Margaret Taylor - President
✨Kerry Merse - Vice President
✨Mark Kinghorn - Vice President
✨Annette Horsler - Treasurer
✨Andrea Davie - Secretary
✨Fiona Sanderson - committee member
✨Stuart McLean - committee member
✨Annie Rushton - committee member

You can contact the committee through our email address - [email protected]

Thank you again to everyone in our community who supports the association - we look forward to another great year together!

wonderful to see our local educators leading in reducing waste.

🌱 Great news! Through our waste reduction programs, we've saved 277 kg of waste from landfill — and that means we've prevented 1,419 kg of CO2 from entering the atmosphere! 🌍✨

What does that look like?
🚗 Equivalent to driving about 4,500 kilometres in a typical car
🌳 Or planting 40-50 trees that will absorb this amount of CO2 over 10 years

Here's how we did it:

174 kg of food waste = 435 kg of CO2 prevented
9 kg of plastic bottle tops = 54 kg of CO2 prevented
93 kg of textiles = 930 kg of CO2 prevented
Every action counts — together, we're making a real difference for our planet! 💚🌎
