Great news! 🔥🚒

We’re happy to share that Mount Mee Rural Fire Brigade has received the $24,154.93 raised from our Viking Breed North Brisbane Tattoo & Bike Show!

We hope this money goes a long way towards helping the brigade get the equipment they need and supporting the amazing work they do for our local community.

A massive thank you again to everyone who came along, donated, sponsored or helped make the day happen. Without everyone's support, this wouldn't have been possible.

It's great to see the money going where it's needed, and we hope it makes a real difference for the Mount Mee Rural Fire Brigade.

Message from Fire Warden

Hi All,

Due to ongoing dry warm weather with no decent rain on the forecast I will cease issuing fire permits for vegetation burns (ie paddock burns) from today.

For stack burns with appropriate water and machinery resources available permits will be available for 2 more weeks on current forecasts.

As the weather turns from warm to hot the risk of burns being lost control of increases and as such all fire fighting resources need to be focused on response rather than mitigation.

Most surrounding fire districts are already under fire bans or fire wardens have ceased issuing permits.

We all await the rain 🙂.

Our new 20 kVA Isuzu genset was delivered today thanks to Brisbane Isuzu and Walkabout Services.

This was funded as part of our gambling community benefit grant. Andrew Powell MP

It will be in storage for a bit until we complete a new services shed before installing it with an automatic transfer switch.

A bit ironic considering we were on day 2 of several weeks of intermittent power outages due to Energex works and needed to manually open the roller doors at the station 😂

It’s a decent sized set but as our station is all electric from ACs, refill pumps, big hot water and with a big kitchen fit out occurring we will need the capacity as we rebuild the station to better serve our community in times of need. Particularly days long power outages from storms as we have had the last few years.

This is a set we believe will give us decades of reliable service that is fully supported by Isuzu Australia. Another selling point was that it is very quiet only 51 dB which is half that of a loud conversation to ensure we don’t impact our valued neighbours.

Two jobs yesterday afternoon.

Patrolled the Sheep Station Creek fire and then with many other brigades responded to a large grass fire in difficult terrain at Sandy Creek where light attacks were required.

Thought we almost had it out and then a smoke column was sighted, drone saw alot of heat so went for a look…. another 400m of flame creeping down hill.

Left shed 1pm returned 830 pm

The 30 / 30 / 30 situation

A quick post to explain this and its relevance to today;
- when the temperature is above 30 degrees
- when the wind is above 30 km / hr
- when the humidity is below 30 %
It’s a day when fires will grow rapidly.

This afternoon here on the mountain it’s expected to be 35 C, 35 km / hr Westerly and 11% humidity at times.

Hence why permits have been suspended and other districts have entered a fire ban.

So this afternoon especially please put off any non essential hot works, please do not light fire, not a good afternoon for slashing or mowing and generally be alert for rapidly changing situations.

In the most polite way - we don’t want to see you today! 😉

Evening,

I have just received notice that in response to the hotter weather predicted for tomorrow that the chief fire warden has suspended all permits within Moreton Bay local government area from 0800 hrs Sunday 6th Sep until 0800 hrs Monday 7th Sep.

Afternoon Mount Mee

For training tomorrow morning we will be doing some bladey grass burns approx 3 acres at the southern end of Robinson Road behind the school.
Taking advantage of the light expected morning westerly so as to send smoke where we want it.

Approx duration 0730 to 0830 hrs.

This is being done under a permit issued by the Chief Fire Warden.
