Some pics from the scene preservation practical today.

The forecast rain held off so we could burn some bladey grass and trace points of origin, spread and other features.

Hi Mount Mee,

We have been running a scene preservation course over this weekend for members and staff.

Tomorrow has a practical component that involves setting a fire and determining spread and origin.

Our intention, weather permitting, is to undertake this practical tomorrow morning at a property on southern Robinson Road Mount Mee behind Mount Mee state school.

So if you see smoke, flame, rfs vehicles around there in the morning you know what’s going on.

Assisting Toorbul Rural Fire Brigade with BR71 district tanker at Rutters Road elimbah this arvo.
Backburning from the edge of the Bruce Highway southbound and supplying bulk water to attending appliances.

Got to see a candling gum tree shooting jets of flame out thirty metres in the air.

It’s the typical Ekka week westerlies again.

For those with fire permits please ensure you abide by the wind strength conditions and directions of your permit.

Do you have plans to conduct a hazard reduction burn over the coming days?
The Bureau of Meteorology is warning of a gusty wind change that could affect most of the state from Sunday and into early next week.
The current forecast indicates the change will hit southwest Queensland first but will extend up to North Queensland by Monday. It will leave a dry airmass over Queensland which could lead to locally high fire danger.
Please check your local conditions before doing any burning, as things could change quickly.

So it’s rural fire service week….. here’s what you can do in the RFSQ when your brigade gets the call to assist with a hazard reduction burn on Moreton Island.

Arrive area office at 7am to get a boat ride to Moreton Island courtesy of our fellow vollies at Marine Rescue Bribie Island with a beach landing. Set 5000 hectares on fire with Moreton Island RFB and then a fast trip home on a glassy bay with MRQ-BI again. Big day but you get to see and do things you otherwise would only dream of.

If you have ever thought of joining up - there’s never a better time than now! 😉

Filled the Jimny with bottled water for the upcoming fire season at area office - forecast to be a big year.
