Climate action is opportunity!

Climate action is driving growth, jobs and investment by encouraging the following:

Transition away from fossil fuel in energy systems in a just, orderly and equitable manner.

Clean energy offers reliable, home-grown alternatives.

Adaptation offers high returns and resilience benefits.

Climate resilience could unlock $18 trillion in opportunities

Consider taking climate action by transitioning to renewable energy in your home or business. Check out our website for more information: Link in bio

Well here we are...

We said 1.5°C was the limit. We are crossing it.

For decades, the world has heard the climate story—warnings, targets, distant deadlines. Too often, the response has been lost in noise: delay, distraction, denial.

But listen closer now. Beneath the noise, another signal is rising. Solar panels stretch across rooftops. Wind turbines line the horizon. Cities are being redesigned for people. Forests are being replanted. Climate solutions are taking root in every corner of the planet.

Climate impacts are increasing — but so are the solutions

Acting now delivers safer, healthier, and more prosperous societies
Acting on climate could prevent millions of deaths and trillions in economic losses by 2050.

Solutions are here and scaling fast:
🌱Sustainable buildings lower energy use and support resilient growth.
🌱Reducing methane quickly slows warming and improves air quality.
🌱Forests store carbon and reduce climate risks while protecting biodiversity.
🌱Clean energy and electric mobility are rapidly expanding.
🌱Did you know? Solar and wind now outpace coal in some markets, signaling a major shift.

Extraordinary!

Singapore averages over 2,400 millimeters of rain a year. Until now, all of that water hit a roof, ran down a drain, and disappeared. It was a drainage problem. Now it is a power source.

A new surface material captures both the kinetic and electrochemical energy of a falling raindrop. It generates an electrical current on contact. The conversion efficiency outperforms conventional hydropower by a factor of ten. It does not need a dam. It does not need a river. It only needs a building surface and a cloudy sky.

In a tropical city where it rains 167 days a year, every roof and facade is now a potential power station. The fuel arrives without a supply chain. It costs nothing. And it shows up without being asked.

To finish off National Volunteer Week, some thoughts on volunteering from our newest Committee Member, Esther.

"I volunteer because I care about the community and environment we live in. Both give so much to me, it’s nice to be able to give a little back. Through volunteering I get to meet all kinds of different people and experience things I probably wouldn’t otherwise, which I love. I enjoy being part of a shared effort and contributing to something beyond myself, it’s very humbling. It reminds me how connected we all are and how small actions can still make a positive difference". - Esther

Our Vice President, Warwick explains why volunteering at Repower is important to hime...

"I initially joined Repower because I wanted to make a contribution to empowering people to take climate action. I wanted people to understand what is at stake and what they can do in their lives to make a positive contribution. More recently I am motivated by a desire to support as many people to make the transition to renewables and household electrification. Everyone deserves to benefit financially from this transition and the means are there for everyone". - Wrwick

Using your skills as a volunteer makes so much sense. Lisa our Treasurer shares her story...

"I volunteer with Repower Mornington Peninsula because I want to support practical community action on climate change, and using renewable solar energy and reducing fossil fuels is an important practical step that makes sense both financially and environmentally, so I see it as a win-win! I wanted to do something that was the right fit for my skills and helped to create a measurable and beneficial outcome. Local, place-based action is just as important as global action, and community organisations play an important role in supporting a fair transition that brings people along together through trusted information, education and practical projects. Being Treasurer allows me to contribute while also supporting our team so that our impact can be greater together". - Lisa

"Volunteering with Repower has been, and is still something I find uplifting. Connecting with my community through our Repower events and providing information about the benefits of electrification makes me feel hopeful and helpful. Working with the Repower committee and our trusted providers is inspiring and I feel proud of what we have achieved for our community and the planet". - Jodi

Celebrating one of our seriously dedicated Repower Committee volunteers for National Volunteer Week - Mark

"Throughout my adult life I have held concerns for thestate of our natural environment without being actively involved in a conservation movement. I suppose that I have long understood that my way of living has contributed to some of our environmental problems, particularly to do with climate change, the consequences almost certainly affecting the lives of not only my grandchildren, but ultimately all Natural Systems on our Planet. I initially became a member of Flinders Zero Carbon Community, then joined Repower to try and make an impact regionally, bringing about action to reduce Carbon emissions on the Mornington Peninsula." - Mark

National Volunteers Week is a time to celebrate our wonderful team at Repower. Today, a few words from Deb, our President.

"I am passionate about doing what I can about climate change and protecting the health of our environment on which we all depend. I care about the kind of world we are leaving to our grandchildren and future generations and live by the rule Think Global, Act Local. Getting involved in my local community, with such a great bunch of smart, committed and generous people, makes me feel like I am making a tiny dent in the hugeness of our challenges, and actually makes me feel a lot better about the world!" - Deb

For National Volunteers Week and beyond we wish to acknowledge our volunteers who work very hard to keep Repower rolling on. Starting with Belinda, our Secretary.

"I joined Repower for two interconnected reasons - because I care about climate change and its impact on our natural world - but also because I care about the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in our local community.

Repower is an organisation where I am now working closely with a fantastic group of other committed locals to educate people on how to lower their emissions and utility bills, and live healthier lives, while also helping those less fortunate through providing emission mitigation upgrade funding through our Community Trust Program - a win/win". - Belinda
