πIt's melon season, with rockmelons and honeydew melons filling the markets! The major growing ares for melons in QLD are the Bundaberg-Burnett and Bowen-Burdekin regions. Make the most of these sweet, juicy fruits while they are in season.
Make sure you ripen whole melons at room temperature before storing in the fridge. You can tell that a melon is ripe if it gives a little when pressed at the stem, and has a sweet melon smell at the other end.
Rockmelon is great by itself, but also pairs well with tropical fruits, lime, berries, chilli, olives, vinegar, feta, fresh mozarella, yoghurt, coconut or cashews. Add melons to a fruit salad, with cheese platters, or make a melon salsa to serve with fish, tacos, or as a side at your summer BBQ πβπ©ππΆοΈπ₯₯π§
