The Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) is the volunteer arm of the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) and is part of the larger Department of Community Safety. The Mount Isa Rural Fire Brigade began 24 March 2008 and consisted of 10 members. Since then our Brigade has doubled in size and is actively fighting fires in the Mount Isa area. As we are a volunteer Brigade, we volunteer our

time to this page, fighting fires, mitigating fires and providing community education for the Mount Isa area. We rely on donations from local Businesses to assist with our running costs. The Brigade’s current business supporter includes; Xstrata, Mount Isa Mining Supplies, Mount Isa HOGS Group and Dave Clancy Electrical. Our hearts are heavy after hearing the news of those that have lost their lives today. The ultimate sacrifice was made trying to assist our communities in the the North West during our fire season. Thank you for your service xx

It’s been a long, challenging and tiring 3 weeks for the members of the Mount Isa Rural Fire Brigade.

We would just like to share our appreciation and heartfelt thanks to everyone in the Isa.

To the businesses and organisations both big and small, landowners, station owners, friends, colleagues, community groups, community members, and everyone that took the time to assist us with the fires both here and on the outskirts of our town. To those that offered or gave us assistance in resources, refreshments, food, checking in on our welfare and just giving us the courage to keep on going. To the landowners and their friends & family who fought to keep their properties safe, you are all absolute legends. Thank you.

As a remote brigade with limited resources and members, we felt the massive support of our whole community come together, and it was amazing. We could not have done and achieved what we did without such a supportive, strong and resilient community. The spirit of the Isa truely comes alive in times of need. And you should all be proud of what you have all done during this time.

To our brothers and sisters in Rural Fire, Fire and Rescue, SES, QPS & QAS, we thank you for being there for us in our time of need.

And lastly but not least, to our brigade members, the volunteers of the Mount Isa Rural Fire Brigade. Thank you for sacrificing time away from your families and your workplaces and putting yourselves out their to help our community.

Thank you once again to everyone. Please know that as a brigade, we are truely proud and honoured to be part of such a beautiful community and will continue to do what we can to help our community where and when needed.
