πŸ’™ A free Community Healing Event will be held in Mount Isa this weekend, aimed at strengthening connection, wellbeing and support across the city.

Mount Isa Su***de Prevention Network President Candy Blackwell said connection is especially important in remote communities, where people may have fewer services close by and longer distances to travel for help.

"It doesn't necessarily have to be professionals that you reach out for help. Your friends and family are great choices to talk to if you're having difficult times." πŸ—£οΈ

The event will include creative activities like rock painting and lantern making, drumming circles, yarning and connection spaces, and pop-up blue trees where people can leave photos, memorial tributes or messages of hope.

There'll also be a free BBQ with steak burgers.

πŸ“ Outback at Isa, Mount Isa
πŸ“… Saturday, June 13
⏰ 10am to 2pm

Candy said the event was shaped by people with lived experience, including those bereaved by su***de.

"People who have that experience of su***de loss heal with one another," she said. "They don't heal in isolation."

The event is funded through the Western Queensland Primary Health Network

πŸ’™ Blue Tree Project – Mount Isa Update

Thank you to everyone in the Mount Isa community who shared ideas and support for the Blue Tree Project. A tree has now been identified and we’re moving into the next stage of preparing the site.

A special thank you to Mark Van Ryt and Anne Li for identifying the tree and providing photos.

The Blue Tree Project is a national initiative that encourages conversations about mental health and reminds people they’re not alone.

We’re currently seeking in-kind support from local businesses to help bring the project to life, including:
πŸ”Ή Arborist / tree lopping
πŸ”Ή Pest control
πŸ”Ή Painters

Supporting businesses will be acknowledged and invited to the Blue Tree launch event.

If you’d like to be involved, please get in touch via Messenger or email at mountisasu***[email protected]

Mount Isa, we need your help finding a tree πŸͺΎ

The Mount Isa Su***de Prevention Network is working towards creating a Blue Tree in Central Mount Isa as a visible symbol for mental health and su***de prevention.

You might have seen Blue Trees in other towns. They are dead trees πŸͺΎ painted blue πŸ’™ to start conversations about mental health and remind people they are not alone.

Mount Isa already has two Blue Trees, but they are not in highly visible central locations, which is where they can have the most impact.

We are looking for a dead tree somewhere in Central Mount Isa that could be suitable. Somewhere safe, visible, and part of everyday life in town.

Do you know of one?
Feel free to comment below or send us a message with the location. A photo would be even better πŸ“·.

This is a community project, and we would love the town’s help to find the right spot πŸ’™
