_You Make the Difference: The Hidden Impact of Every Scout Night_

Each week across Australia, thousands of volunteer Leaders turn up: unlocking halls, supporting the duty Patrol Leader, setting up obstacle courses, organising badgework, supporting young people to lead, checking the arrangements for the night hikes, packing away gear, and encouraging hesitant voices to speak up. Sometimes you’re thanked, often you're not. Sometimes the night feels chaotic, the lesson unclear, or the Group distracted. And yet - you keep showing up.

What you may not always see is this: you are changing lives.

New national data from the Resilient Youth Survey confirms what many of us have felt in our hearts for years - that Scouts builds stronger, more resilient young people. The data shows that Scouts score an average of 91% across key wellbeing measures, compared to 82% for the national average. That means the program you deliver each week isn’t just fun - it’s transformative.

Your Scouts are:
· More hopeful about their future
· Better able to cope with stress and anxiety
· More likely to have trusted adults they can talk to
· More willing to give back to their community
· More respectful, inclusive, and connected to others

These are not just numbers. These are futures you’re shaping - one activity, one Patrol meeting, one encouraging word at a time.

You may not see it now, but your commitment is laying foundations that will support these young people for the rest of their lives. You’re helping a shy 11-year-old learn confidence. You’re showing a teenager how to solve problems, serve others, and believe in themselves. You’re helping young Australians become the kind of adults our country needs: resilient, compassionate, and community-minded.

The Scout program works - and you are the reason it works.

So the next time a session feels like a scramble, or the tent pegs won’t go in, or the youth members forget the equipment again - take heart. You are not alone. And what you are doing matters more than you know.

Because of you, our communities will be stronger tomorrow.

Thank you - for every week you’ve given, and every Scout you’ve inspired. The difference you make is profound. Keep going…

Australia needs you!

Yours in Scouting,
Brendan Watson OAM
Chief Commissioner, Scouts Australia

👉 Now Taking Expressions of Interest – Cubs Term 1, 2026!

Do you know a young adventurer aged 8–11 who’s ready to explore, build skills, and make new friends? 🌿

Our Cub Unit will have a few openings available in Term 1, 2026, as some of our Cubs will move up to Scouts. This is a great chance to join the fun — camping, hiking, games, community projects, and plenty of muddy adventures!

Our Cub Unit youth numbers are full, so spaces are limited. If you’d like to find out more or register your interest, send us a message or email [email protected]

We offer a FREE 3 week trial to all youth members - nothing to lose!

Let the adventures begin! 🏕️💚

If your child 11 years or older, they are perfect for our Scout section! Ask us about Scouts too!

🚴‍♂️ Cubs on wheels!

Last night one of our Cubs stepped up and led a mini session on Cycling Stage 1 (Outdoor Adventure Skills) —peer leadership at its best.

Another one of our Cubs rolled in (pun intended) with his bike fully kitted out for a family cycle touring adventure and set the vibe for ride-ready excitement. They leave today!!!

Big smiles, plenty of buzz, and lots of “when can we do this again?” 🥳

Love seeing Cubs teaching Cubs—skills for life, and a heap of fun along the way.

Good luck to our travellers and see you in a year!

ANOTHER Big shout out to the Shire of Mundaring for the grant funding that helped us buy new hiking rucksacks and lightweight camping stoves for Eastern Hills Scout Group.

Getting out in the out-of-doors can get a little demanding on the wallet, so loan gear resources are a fabulous idea. Translation: good quality packs, that actually fit, making hiking enjoyable, and hot food that isn’t “lukewarm mystery noodles.”
More kids can get out on a trail, carry their own gear, and cook safely and enjoyably on overnight adventures.

We appreciate the support, Shire of Mundaring. It makes a REAL, practical difference for our young people. 🙌

With all this new gear, we are itching to get in the sun and out on the trail - coming? Want to be part of the action? Getting FOMO? Don't stress, just comment below and we can hook you up with a free, 3 week trial. Easy Peasy.

Huge thanks to the Shire of Mundaring for supporting Eastern Hills Scout Group in the recent Quick Grants round!

Our growing youth and adult helper numbers means needing more places to put tired butts to sit and heads to sleep!

With more youth joining and gear to support them, it means we can say “yes” to more camps—dry beds, a place to sit, and plenty of adventure. Cheers, Shire of Mundaring!

Keen to give Scouts a go? Send us a message—there’s a tent spot and a seat waiting. 😜
