This is a beautiful short video. There are always so many pets who are overlooked. We have some too. We just haven't put them into a video. But if this video tugs at your heartstrings, and you think that you could open your heart to an animal that just needs someone to see them and give them a chance, you will be rewarded ten fold. Please, consider one of those that has been waiting a long, long time for a home of their own. Message us, we are happy to share photos and stories of our "long termers". 💕

Check your pets microchip!
That tiny little chip is what will see your pet returned to you. Check that your details are still up to date with the microchip company, as nothing is worse than egen a pet is handed in but the phone number on record is no longer connected. Make sure that doesn't happen to you!
And when you next take your pet in to the vet, ask them to scan your pet to make sure the microchip is still active (as like anything, they can sometimes stop working.)

It’s National Check Your Chip Day!

There probably aren't too many things more heartbreaking than losing a pet.

If your pet ever goes missing, and trust us, it happens often, their microchip could be the lifeline that gets them home, but only if the details are correct.

If you've moved house or changed phone number since your dogs were micro chipped , their details will need updating.

If you're not sure where your pet’s microchip is registered, visit petaddress.com.au with your chip number to find out.

If you don’t know their microchip number simply contact your vet who will have the number on file.

Please check your chip and spread the word.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Bird flu and cats

Cats are highly likely to catch bird flu. They can get it from direct contact with sick or dead birds, or indirect contact with contaminated water or food, or contaminated shoes/clothing if their owners have been near sick or dying birds.

We have had a mass bird death event in our region so owners need to be prepared.

Our advice for pet cat owners:
Keep cats indoors.
Feed cats indoors. Avoid raw feeding.
Make sure food and water sources are not accessible to birds or rodents.
Do not handle sick or dead birds. Avoid the areas where there are sick or dying birds.
If you have been in an area with sick or dead birds, do not wear your clothing and shoes inside where cats can contact. Keep shoes outdoors. Handle clothing with gloves. Wash in hot water and dry in a tumble dryer.

If you see a sick stray cat, especially with respiratory symptoms - do not handle without PPE - gloves, gown, face mask. Keep the cat isolated from other animals. Cover the cat carrier. PHONE a vet - DO NOT BRING INTO THE CLINIC BEFORE TALKING TO THE CLINIC

This does not mean everyone who takes a free kitten won't do the right thing, but unfortunately many people do not. There is something about "free" that is easy come, easy go to many people. No commitment. So if the kitten wanders off (probably during breeding season, and they haven't been desexed) there might not be any effort to find them. There's plenty more, we'll just get another one :(
And unfortunately, rescues fill up fast because there are just so many kittens over kitten season. If you have a kitten, please, please, please, have them desexed. It's now breeding season, and once again we are hoping that there won't be an avalanche of kittens in a couple of months time.
Don't assume that rescues will be able to take unwanted kittens, because yours won't be the only ones 😏
