A message from our Client services manager: Today, on National Sorry Day, I stand as a proud Wiradjuri woman, a mother, grandmother, and Client Services Manager at the WASH House in Mt Druitt.

This day is more than a date on the calendar. It is a reminder of the pain, loss, and trauma carried by our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through the forced removal of children from their families, culture, language, and Country. Those wounds do not disappear with time. They still impact our communities today.

But our people are still here. Strong. Resilient. Continuing to lead, heal, protect culture, and care for one another.

Working at the WASH House, I see every day how important it is to create safe spaces where women and families are heard, respected, and supported without judgement. Healing starts with truth, respect, and walking together the right way.

Today I honour the Stolen Generations, our Elders, our survivors, and all those who carry these stories. We remember them with love, strength, and deep respect.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land. 🖤💛❤️

Today on National Sorry Day, WASH House stands in reflection, truth-telling and solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We acknowledge the pain and ongoing impacts experienced by Stolen Generations survivors, their families and communities, and honour the strength, resilience and cultural knowledge that continues to guide future generations.
As this year’s theme reminds us, “From Sorry to Action”, acknowledging history must also mean committing to meaningful change. At WASH House, we are committed to actively creating culturally safe, respectful and inclusive spaces for First Nations communities. We are committed to listening, learning, walking alongside community, and respecting the diverse cultures, stories and lived experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Reconciliation is not a single day — it is ongoing action, accountability and relationships built on respect.
We pay our respects to Elders past and present and recognise the continuing connection of First Nations peoples to Country, community and culture.

On Sunday 17th May, WASH House proudly joined other services from the Western Sydney Rainbow Connection to celebrate IDAHOBIT at the Blacktown City Council Village Green for the Pride Flag Raising Ceremony organised by Blacktown Area Community Centres and Blacktown City Council. 🏳️‍🌈
The event featured a heartfelt Welcome to Country by Aunty Cino, along with inspiring speeches from Traidy Nadoo from Chosen Family and Dale Dawson from Equality Australia. It was truly wonderful to see community coming together in solidarity, celebration, and support on such a vital and important day.
IDAHOBIT stands for the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia and Transphobia. Observed worldwide on 17th May, the day raises awareness of the discrimination LGBTQIA+ communities continue to face, while celebrating diversity, inclusion, and equality for all. This years theme being “At the heart of Democracy”
The theme for the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) 2026 will be “At the heart of democracy,” the global IDAHOBIT Advisory Committee announced today.

Developed through extensive consultations with regional and global LGBTQIA+ networks worldwide, the 2026 IDAHOBIT theme serves as a powerful reminder that the soil of truly democratic societies must be rich in meaningful equity and justice for all, fostering the flourishing of the entire community.
