Welcome to '4 in 3' the Mason Minniss Fund page

this page is in honour of our 'Little Monkey'

Mason Minniss was born in Cairns on the 14th June 2000
just before his 7th birthday Mason was diagnosed with a rare metabolic condition called METACHROMATIC LEUKODYSTROPHY. MLD is genetic, there is no known cure......... 'YET' but there are lots of researchers all over the world trying to find a way to

cure this horrible condition. Mason passed away 15th April 2011...he was 10yrs and 10 months old,
we miss him so much, Mason is always in our hearts, but we are now a
family of 4 in 3 bodies. In Masons memory we have started the 4in3 Fund with support of
the Women's & Children's Foundation. Our fundraising help to give some comforts to the families here in Adelaide who are patients of the Paediatric Paliative Care Service at the Adelaide Women's & Children's Hospital. We started our fundraising for a Masonette Cupboard, this wonderful cupboard is the idea of Masons Palliative care Nurse Sara Fleming, (she saw a cupboard like these a few years ago in a Palliative care dept in a hospital overseas, and we are proud to help Sara and her team achieve these for their patients) the nurses can wheel it into the hospital room to give some homelike comfort to the whole family, while they stay with their child who is being cared for by the Palliative Care Nurses. The Masonette contains items like
*Soft cuddly blankets
*Pillows
*Toys (for siblings and child)
*Aromatherapy
*Toiletries
*Books/ magazines
* and a 'DUDE' a gift for each child from Mason
(a small toy which Mason used to always carry with him)
plus more things that can be adapted for each families need as required. When a cupboard isn't appropriate or if the child is cared for at home the nurses can take 'Butterfly Baskets' filled with either comforting items, food, or toys for the child and their siblings. Our son Mason spent time in and out of the Womens & Childrens Hospital but we mainly cared for him at home, we know what these families are going through and we just want to give them a little more comfort and love while they are travelling through this very emotional and heartbreaking journey, our boy gave us strength and taught us so much about life we need to pay it forward. Life is so precious especially the life of a child. thankyou from our family of '4 in 3'
