Our next meeting is club contests đź’«

This means members of the club participate in the contests, testing their speech writing and delivery skills.

This week is Humorous - defined as an original, 5-to-7-minute speech designed to entertain and amuse the audience.

Also Evaluation - where participants watch a 5- to 7-minute "test speech" and then deliver a 2- to 3-minute oral critique of that speech.

Contests provide a touch more pressure and a chance to expand skills learnt writing and giving speeches.

Guests welcome to come along and watch a contest in action đź’«

We had the wonderful opportunity to honour Nathan and his important contribution to the club.

Nathan sadly passed away recently, leaving a huge loss for his family and friends, including the Mt Barker Toastmasters members who had come to enjoy Nathan’s humour, cheekiness and deep thinking at our meetings.

It was a night full of celebration, with Nathan’s family certain he would have been laughing from above at seeing each family member participate in the impromptu speaking segment - aka “Tabletopics”.

A special moment to see Nathan’s dad, Russell, be awarded best effort of the night for his impromptu speech (4mins 14secs!) after claiming he was no good at public speaking 🤭!

Even more poignant was knowing that Nathan had won this very same award at his last meeting with us.

Toastmasters becomes a place where we grow together and encourage each other each step of the way. Tonight Nathan’s family could see just why Nathan valued his time with the club and the impact it was having on his journey.

Thank you to Nathan’s family, it was an honour and joy to celebrate Nathan with you tonight 🙏

Thank you Nathan for all you contributed and gave us at the club.

May you rest in peace đź’–

A special meeting this week as we honour and remember one of our members, Nathan.

Over time, a Toastmasters club becomes more than a place to speak, it becomes a space where we support each other, celebrate growth, and share in each other’s journeys.

Nathan was a valued part of that, and he will be deeply missed.

This week, we’ll be celebrating his contribution together with his family and friends.

Guests are warmly welcome.
