IMPORTANT NOTICE Mpox at ConFest
NSW Health has confirmed an active Mpox case after that person attended ConFest
Either contracted before ConFest ? or during our gathering ?
The virus is spread by skin to skin contact or s*xual activity.
Men who have s*x with men, and their s*xual partners are at greater risk of infection.
Incubation time can be 3-21 days.
Infected people may be infectious 4 days before showing symptoms
It’s 3 weeks since we gathered for Easter ConFest.
Early symptoms may be - fevers or chills, headache, muscle aches, tiredness, swollen lymph nodes
Usual signs & symptoms include -
- rashes, sores, pimple-like lesions
- lesions, sores in mouth
- re**al pain +/- a**l rash
Diagnosis by swab from an affected area can be done by GP or a s*xual health centre
Treatment is usually rest at home, advise all contacts,
go to hospital if really unwell or your management may be complicated by presence of other medical conditions
The NSW Health site has a Mpox info sheet and a monthly report
- 11 new cases in March.
The April report will be released in first days of May.
