Great to have crew back in the Garden of Woven Memories this Saturday at 8am for an hour or two.
Come along and join us to chat and tidy up the garden.

Garden of Woven Memories⁶ Working bee
We’ll meet at 8am, go through until around 10ish, and as always: reconnect, have a laugh, show the weeds who’s boss, and trim grasses for mulch.
If you’ve got the time, come along — would be lovely to see you.
Bring enclosed shoes, hat, gloves, water bottle, maybe a tool, and whatever else keeps you comfy.

After a long period of limited action, the volunteer business owners that are behind the Douglas Chamber of Commerce are BACK !!

We are aware that the Shire has evolved, people have evolved, and technology has evolved.

We also understand the "concept" of a Chamber of Commerce - may not meet the needs of the Shire moving forward - so are open to any and all submissions on how to build an advocacy and collaborative organisation that will support the needs of business moving forward - Change is good !

We are calling an Emergency General Meeting for 14th April, where we call on all business owners and leaders across the Shire to attend, either in person or virtually, or if you cannot attend in person, by written submission to [email protected], and answer the following 3 questions;

With the future in mind;

1. What role (if any) do you see for a Business Advocacy Group in the Douglas Shire.

2. What key challenges does your business face at present, and moving forward towards the end of 2026.

3. What level of participation can you commit to in engaging with the new Advocacy Group - remembering we can utilise technology to streamline workloads and facilitate meetings virtually - so everyone can contribute.

Watch out for notices in Newsport and Facebook and Instagram next week.

Lets rebuild stronger together

Thank you to Nicky Swan for working so hard to get this project front & center. Douglas Shire Council is looking to a new future for tourism & our environment.

Today local operators met with , and Tourism Tropical North Queensland to discuss issues and 💡 ideas (there's some really good ones!) that their businesses may have.

These are early day conversations that have been on going and will continue for some time.

I'm confident as a Shire we will eventually come to a consensus on who we want to be in years to come.

Our Economic Development officers within Council will continue their hard work as we work towards Destination 2045.

At the last working bee in the Garden of Woven Memories, there was an incredibly beautiful gift left hanging in one of the entry trees. It was tiny but the first thing I saw when I entered.
It has bought so much joy to the team, in showing a deep understanding of place.
We love working with the Kuku Yalanji, being on Country, and learning to walk together. They have been so generous of spirit, and thankfully patient with us at the Mossman Botanic Garden.
What a wonderful & appreciated gift.
