For decades, the Daintree Oxbow floodplain was fragmented across multiple landholders, making large-scale restoration almost impossible.

Now, for the first time, the landholders are ready to sell and want to see this country returned to nature πŸŒ±πŸ’šπŸŒ³. But this land is on the open market. Other buyers are watching it too πŸ‘€.

This window is open now, but it won't stay that way. It's now or never.

Help us secure it before another buyer does:

: Would you believe us if we told you that dragons still exist in Australia? πŸ‰

Say hello to Boyd’s forest dragon (Lophosaurus boydii, formerly Hypsilurus boydii), a dazzling rainforest reptile found only in the Wet Tropics of North Queensland.

Legend (and science!) suggests it might have arrived from Southeast Asia via a land bridge to New Guinea around 20,000 years ago 🦎.

If you own a business, there’s a simple way to support rainforest protection and restoration through our program πŸ’š.

With the support of our community, we’ve purchased and protected over 240 hectares of lowland Daintree rainforest, and planted hundreds of thousands of trees to help reconnect fragmented habitat.

It’s a simple idea. Back real work on the ground that helps rainforest return and thrive πŸŒ±πŸ’šπŸŒ³.

Rainforests are among the most biologically rich places on Earth, yet they continue to disappear at an alarming rate due to human activity.

As rainforests recover, researchers compare plants, animals and ecosystem processes across forests at different stages of regrowth to better understand how these ecosystems heal over time 🌱⏰️🌳.

By restoring and protecting degraded land, Rainforest Rescue helps create β€˜living laboratories’ where vital scientific research can take place.

These long-term restoration sites are helping deepen our understanding of rainforest recovery, carbon storage, and ecosystem health for future generations πŸ’š.

As comes to a close, we want to say thank you to every single volunteer who has supported Rainforest Rescue’s mission over the years πŸ’š.

Today, we’re shining the spotlight on the incredible volunteers who helped restore NightWings Rainforest Centre across a decade of Community Tree Planting Days in the Daintree.

Over 10 years of restoration, volunteers showed up with muddy boots, good vibes, big smiles and an enormous amount of heart, helping transform former cane paddocks into thriving rainforest habitat once againπŸŒ±πŸ’šπŸŒ³.

Some joined us for a single planting day. Others returned year after year, becoming familiar faces in a growing community connected by a shared love for the rainforest. Together, these volunteers helped plant more than 100,000 trees at NightWings over a decade of restoration.

But this story has never just been about planting trees. It’s about people coming together to create something hopeful for the future. Every early morning start, every tree in the ground, and every shared laugh across the planting site helped shape the rainforest now growing there today.

To everyone who volunteered at NightWings over the past decade or helped make the project possible in ways big and small: thank you. Your energy, care and commitment helped make this restoration story possible, and we are so grateful to have shared the journey with you.

We are so much better together πŸ₯°.

It’s International Day for Biological Diversity πŸŒΏπŸ’š.

Despite all our technological advances, we remain completely dependent on healthy and vibrant ecosystems for our water, food, medicines, shelter, energy, and so much more.

Today, and every day, we’re reminded of the importance of protecting and restoring the incredible biological diversity that supports life on Earth, especially here in the Daintree 🌏.

Many of the plant and animal species found in the Daintree are endemic to the region, meaning they exist nowhere else on the planet. This remarkable rainforest is one of the most biologically diverse places in Australia and plays an important role in supporting climate resilience, ecosystem health, and the future of our natural world.

The future of the Daintree Lowlands is increasingly becoming part of the regional conversation πŸ’š.

Plans to restore a large tract of inactive farmland on the southern side of the Daintree River were recently partly rejected by Douglas Shire Council, with most of the land remaining available for potential agricultural use.

While some partial tree planting was approved, this moment reflects a broader transition already underway across the Daintree Lowlands, as opportunities emerge to restore landscapes, reconnect ecosystems, and build long-term environmental resilience 🌳.
