Congratulations to Bro Hong Zhou - he's now a Third Degree mason.
Why do we do it?
Attending a Masonic lodge is an opportunity to step away from the pressures of daily life, the demands of work, the responsibilities of family, and the constant noise of the outside world, and enter a space set apart for reflection, fellowship, and genuine connection.
Freemasonry has long upheld the importance of balance. Commitment to the Craft is encouraged, but always in harmony with one’s family, livelihood, and personal wellbeing. As the ritual reminds us, our membership “should not be at the detriment to myself or my connections.” This principle ensures that Masonry enriches our lives, complementing rather than competing with our wider responsibilities.
That same spirit applies to how we carry our commitments within the Lodge. No brother stands alone. The work we undertake is shared, and the strength of the Lodge lies in its unity. When pressures arise, we are reminded to lean on one another, to ask for help, and to speak openly. In doing so, we not only lighten our own load but strengthen the bonds that define our brotherhood. There are brethren with skills who can fill the gaps, provide support and provide relief and consolation. It's all there in the ritual.
Approached in this way, a night at lodge becomes something to value and anticipate. A time to reset, to engage in meaningful conversation, and to enjoy the quiet strength of fellowship. It is a chance to leave the outside world behind and experience "all the benefits that disinterested friendship can afford".
And should the weight of life ever feel too great, remember that support is always close at hand. We meet upon the level to support one another, not to lay heavy stones upon a brother’s working tools, but to share the labour so that each may build, with confidence and purpose, within the plans laid out upon the tracing board.
