Today is World Environment Day and every choice we make has an impact. IOur choices and decisions made by industries and governments can either contribute to suffering and the destruction of habitats and homes, or help create a kinder world for all who share it.

For other-than-human animals and ecosystems, the environment isn't a resource - it's their home. Humans too depend on a healthy environment.

Forests are homes. Oceans are homes. Rivers, grasslands, and wetlands are homes. They are places where animals live, raise their families, find food, and seek safety. Yet every day, these homes are being destroyed.

Animal agriculture is one of the leading drivers of habitat loss, deforestation, biodiversity decline, water pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. Behind every cleared forest, drained wetland, or polluted waterway are animals who have lost their homes, their families, and often their lives.

The environmental crisis is not only about carbon emissions or rising temperatures. It is also about the countless individuals - wild and farmed animals - who are paying the price for systems built on exploitation.

The good news is that our compassionate and informed choices can make a difference.

Choosing plant-based foods and products is one of the most powerful actions we can take to reduce our environmental footprint, lessen pressure on ecosystems, and create a kinder future for animals.

This World Environment Day, let's remember that we share this planet with billions of other beings.

Every plant-based meal, every conversation, and every act of kindness helps build a future where forests remain standing, oceans can recover, animals can live free from exploitation, and the environment is protected for everyone who calls it home.

This coming Saturday in Sydney is the National Animal Rights Day memorial ceremony, to honour and remember the billions of other-than-human animals who are caged, mutilated, exploited and slaughtered for human greed.

The event will feature animal rights activists speaking with members of the public about the realities animals face behind closed doors and the urgent need for a more compassionate and just world. Attendees will also be invited to sign a Declaration of Animal Rights.

🚨 GWIC's Final Disciplinary Decisions for the Month of May confirm 27 new charges being applied to 17 GRNSW participants. GWIC has now also added 1 participant and 3 charges late to the April data, bringing the year's total to 75 GRNSW participants investigated and penalised for a total of 139 offences.

The May 2026 penalties include the weak, inadequate and quite frankly pathetic penalty for GRNSW participant, Shayne Stiff, who was observed almost 9 months ago, striking a greyhound at Wentworth Park.

If this is how participants such as Mr Shayne Stiff display their "love" for their greyhounds in public, we can only imagine how these gentle dogs are treated when not in the public view. When dogs are seen as gambling commodities, how could they ever be respected as the sentient beings that they are?

This industry is incapable of reform and must be shut down.

🚨⚠️ URGENT: DON'T DELAY - TAKE ACTION NOW!

The Legislative Council's debate about the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment (Enforcement and Operational Powers) Bill 2026 is imminent. This Bill will update the 47 year old Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979 (POCTAA). This legislation is the single most important legislation for the welfare, wellbeing and protection of animals in NSW.

While there are a number of progressive reforms proposed for some animals, the Bill as it stands is not fit for purpose and will make little difference to millions of other-than-human animals.

Please don't delay. For NSW citizens and those who reside elsewhere, please take action here: https://www.al.org.au/poctaa-bill-amendments to send an urgent email to key NSW decision makers to demand stronger, enforceable laws for all species, not just some.

Today is World Milk Day - a day created to celebrate an industry built on exploitation, separation, suffering, the commodification of motherhood, and slaughter.

Most of us grow up believing dairy is a normal part of life because of the industry's global influence on cultures and education; that consuming milk from lactating mother animals is natural, healthy and necessary. We're rarely shown the truth. Behind every glass of milk, block of cheese, or tub of yoghurt are mothers and babies whose lives are exploited in these industries solely for profit. All other-than-human animals used in the dairy industry are impregnated to produce milk; their babies are frequently taken from them, often within days of birth, so the milk intended for their babies can be sold to humans.

The dairy industry simply cannot exist without exploitation, abuse and suffering. All for dairy products that we as humans have no need for.

On this World Milk Day, we invite you to look beyond the marketing and consider the individuals and their suffering for dairy products. It doesn't have to be this way; you can choose healthy and sustainable plant-based alternatives and speak up for all animals exploited for dairy.

Meet 'Harley Quinn' ❤️

'Harley Quinn' is a survivor from the Australian camel dairy industry who now lives her life in safety, where all her needs are met at Galahad's Sanctuary under the loving care of Lynne McAlister and the sanctuary's volunteers. When Harley Quinn first arrived at the sanctuary, she paced constantly for the first six months, easing off after a year, likely grieving deeply for her family and herd, she may also have been recovering from the stress of confinement, milking, and human handling. Harley Quinn showed physical signs of past abuse with a scarred lump on her neck, likely from previous repeated injections and a sparse coat, far different from the healthy coat she now has.

During Harley Quinn's first few years at the sanctuary, she regularly developed large cysts around her body and in her udders, which Lynne had to treat and manage. Harley's recovery at the sanctuary was supported with minerals, vitamins, selenium and probiotics, and regular monthly faecal testing for parasites, all of which helped improve her overall health.

Compared to the other camels residing at Galahad's (Milkshake and Catapult), who had been captured from the wild, Harley-Quinn’s health challenges as a survivor of the camel dairy industry were noticeably different. Conversations with other camel sanctuary owners revealed that their dairy camels also had gut and parasite-related issues. Harley-Quinn, for example, still suffers occasional diarrhoea despite having no worm burden, which Lynne manages with fibrous foods, probiotics, and charcoal treatments.

Despite everything she has endured, Harley Quinn is incredibly gentle, affectionate, and loves the company of people. She was six years old when she arrived. At first, Milkshake and Catapult dominated her, but within six months, Harley Quinn had become the leader of the herd.

Harley Quinn is a strong, determined spirit. She is a survivor and an advocate for her species.

All camels deserve the respect, love, and sanctuary that Harley Quinn now has.

Today is World Hunger Day, a reminder that hunger is not caused by a lack of food, but by the way our food systems are designed.

Across the world, vast amounts of crops, land, and water are directed toward animal agriculture, while millions of people continue to experience hunger and billions of animals continue to live and die in the cruellest of ways.

A sustainable, plant-based food system uses resources more efficiently, reduces environmental harm, and helps create a future where nutritious food is accessible to everyone.

The choices we make about food affect not only animals and the planet, but also communities, ecosystems, and future generations.

A kinder and more sustainable world is possible - one built on compassion, justice, and food systems designed to nourish rather than exploit.

Every conversation, every conscious choice, and every act of compassion helps move us closer to a future where all beings have the opportunity to thrive.

🦉 Major retailers are committing to remove deadly rat poisons from their shelves - and we need your help to hold them to it.

Coles has claimed it has already pulled second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs) from sale. Meanwhile, Bunnings, Mitre 10, and IGA have committed to follow by 30 June. Woolworths has confirmed removal by end of July 2026.

These are the same poisons that have been found in over 80% of sampled Powerful Owls, 91% of sampled brushtail possums, and behind the deaths of countless animals across Australia. They do not belong on the shelves of hardware or grocery stores.

Commitments are only as good as the follow-through 👇

Next time you're shopping, take 30 seconds to walk past the aisle where these products are found. If you spot any SGAR products still on the shelf at Bunnings, Mitre 10, IGA, or Woolworths - take a photo, note the store, and report it.

Every report helps us document compliance and hold retailers accountable.
