Gippsland Multicultural Services Inc We provide a range of services and programs for Gippsland's culturally diverse and wider community.

Gippsland Multicultural Services (GMS) was founded in 1984, and has a long history of excellence in service delivery to Gippsland's diverse community. We are a community based service managed for and by members of our multicultural community in collaboration with members of the business and service sector in the region. GMS provides services for our ageing migrants, newly arrived migrants and refu

gees, youth and community groups. We also provide a range of services to the wider community including professional development and training services. We receive grants and funding from government departments and private sector, and we are the key advocacy organisation, advising government and the wider sector on all issues of concern or relevance to Gippsland's diverse communities.

๐ŸŒŸ Building strong, connected communities starts with creating opportunities for people to belong.

๐Ÿ’๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ Through the Regional Settlement Support Fund, Gippsland Multicultural Services (GMS) is proud to partner with Warragul Community House (WCH) to strengthen community connections and support people from migrant backgrounds as they build their lives in Australia.

๐Ÿ’๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Our CEO, Carmel Riley, recently joined the WCH Friendship Group to share the range of programs and services delivered by GMS and to explore how, together, we can make it easier for people to access local services, build meaningful social connections, and feel welcomed as valued members of our community.

๐Ÿ’๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธThe discussion highlighted the vital role collaboration plays in reducing social isolation, fostering inclusion, and creating opportunities for everyone to participate, contribute, and thrive.

๐ŸŒธ A special thank you to our local Aboriginal community member for sharing this yearโ€™s NAIDOC Week theme and the meaning of the word โ€œ๐ƒ๐ž๐š๐๐ฅ๐ฒโ€ in Aboriginal English, where it is commonly used as a positive expression meaning excellent, strong, inspiring and something to be proud of. The presentation also highlighted why NAIDOC Week is important and encouraged us to listen, learn, reflect and continue building respectful relationships with First Nations communities.

โญ We were also pleased to welcome representatives from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), who shared valuable information about the ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ” ๐‚๐ž๐ง๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฌ. Participants had the opportunity to learn how Census data helps governments, organisations and communities better understand local needs and plan services that support everyone.

๐ŸŒบ Most importantly, the afternoon provided another wonderful opportunity for people from diverse backgrounds to come together, share conversations, build connections and enjoy lunch in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
