Our She-Lebrate ladies had the best time yesterday during their swimming lesson at Latrobe Leisure Centre Morwell.

It was pleasant to see how they’ve been developing confidence under water and learning strategies to gain important survival swimming skills. Thanks to our very patient and friendly swimming instructors. ❤️

🍽️💚 THE PEOPLE'S KITCHEN IN ACTION TODAY! 💚🍽️

Today at Morwell Neighbourhood House, we were fortunate to have an amazing team of community volunteers come together for a People's Kitchen cook-up, preparing nutritious meals for local families and individuals who may be doing it tough.

Today's menu was a hearty Sausages & Vegetables with Onion Gravy, with an incredible 130 meals prepared and ready to be distributed throughout our community. 🥘

These meals provide more than just food, they offer comfort, warmth, and support to people who need it most.

We simply cannot thank our volunteers enough for the time, care, and dedication they put into supporting this program and our community. Your efforts make a real difference in the lives of so many people.

A special thank you to Bradley, Paul, Kerrie, and Tracy. You are true community warriors, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do. 💚👏

❓ What would you do if your pantry was empty tomorrow?

For more and more people across the Latrobe Valley, this isn't a hypothetical question, it's their reality.

At Morwell Neighbourhood House, our Foodbank will be open tomorrow, Thursday 18th June, helping individuals, families, pensioners, workers, and community members who are finding the cost of living harder than ever.

💚 No judgement.
💚 No barriers.
💚 Just support when it's needed.

Tomorrow you'll find:

🍎 Fresh fruit and vegetables
🍞 Bread
🥫 Pantry staples
🍲 Heat-and-eat meals
🧴 Personal care items
🍋 Plus, thanks to our Grow Hub project, we'll have a range of Grow Hub products made from freshly harvested local produce, rescued from backyard fruit trees and transformed into delicious goodies for the community.

📍 48–50 Beattie Crescent, Morwell
🕘 Open Thursday 18th June: 9:00am – 2:45pm

We have a question for our community:

👇 What's one thing you think would make life easier for families facing cost-of-living pressures right now?

Let's start a conversation.

And if you know someone who could use a little extra support, please share this post. You never know who might see it and realise help is available.

💚 All Latrobe Valley postcodes welcome.

Huge thanks to everyone who turned up yesterday to celebrate the start of Refugee Week. 🙏

Did you know that Latrobe City was officially declared as Refugee Welcome Zone in 2016? This is in recognition of the important contribution of migrants and refugees in the development of the community over successive years.

This year’s theme is A Million Stories, a focus on the courage and resilience of every refugee who fled from war and persecution and found hope in Australia. As British poet Warsan Shire wrote: “No one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark.”

In line with the theme we came up with a short film and interviewed some members of our refugee community and listened to their individual stories. We also spoke to Lisa Sinha, former CEO and the longest serving head of Gippsland Multicultural Services, about her experience supporting refugees back in the 1990s and her views about the challenges facing the community moving forward.

We would like to thank the Victorian State Government and GMS for supporting this event. We won’t be able to do this without your partnership.

Everyone enjoyed grooving to ABBA’s Dancing Queen before indulging ourselves to a sumptuous lunch by Malaios Restaurant. 😊

Thank you all.🙏

🍲💛 What an Incredible Effort Last Friday! 💛🍲

A huge thank you to the amazing team from Gippsland Water who generously volunteered their time last Friday at the People’s Kitchen, Morwell Neighbourhood House.

Together, the team prepared an incredible 173 chicken schnitzels with vegetables, helping us provide nutritious, home style meals to members of our community experiencing food insecurity.

But their support doesn’t stop there.

We also want to acknowledge and thank Gippsland Water for the ongoing and meaningful ways they continue to support our community. This includes providing essential supplies such as toilet paper for our Food Bank, volunteering one day a month in the Food Bank, and working closely with families doing it tough by offering support and assistance with water bills and financial hardship arrangements.

Their commitment goes far beyond volunteering; it is a true partnership that is helping local individuals and families navigate challenging times with dignity and care.

The People’s Kitchen and Food Bank are built on community spirit, and Gippsland Water is a shining example of what that looks like in action.

👏 Please join us in thanking the Gippsland Water team for their incredible ongoing support and community dedication.

😻 What an incredible few days for our community! 😻

A huge thank you to The Vets Project for bringing this much needed service to Morwell and for the amazing work they do supporting pets and their owners. Seeing 66 cats desexed over just three days highlights the importance of accessible veterinary services in our community.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to South Gippsland Animal Aid for sponsoring this fantastic initiative and helping make it possible.

Morwell Neighbourhood House was proud to host this event, and it was wonderful to see so many community members take advantage of the opportunity. The response was overwhelming and showed just how much these services are valued and needed.

The good news is that The Vets Project will be returning later in the year! 🐾 Keep an eye on our page and other social media channels for updates, announcements, and booking information so you don't miss out.

Thank you again to The Vets Project and South Gippsland Animal Aid for making such a positive difference in our community. 🫶
