Important Update: The WES Closing 14 November 2025

It is with great sadness that I share the news that The WES will officially close on 14 November 2025.

Despite the tireless efforts of many, we have not been successful in securing ongoing funding to continue the program. We know this will be deeply felt by many in our community. The WES has been a valued and much loved space for connection, hope, and recovery in the Latrobe Valley.

Our incredible Peer Workers remain available until the closing date to provide support, listen, and help you explore other services that may suit your needs. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to them , they are here for you.

From all of us at Wellways and The WES, thank you for your trust, support, and shared belief in what we’ve built together. The WES has made a real difference in people’s lives, and that impact will continue to be felt long after we close our doors.💙

The theme of sorry day 2025 is not waiting another generation, the following information is taken from hearingfoundation.org.au:

Most survivors are eligible for aged care but are faced with an aged care system which often re-triggers the trauma of institutionalisation.

Western Australia and Queensland are yet to introduce any redress schemes, and other state and territory schemes are flawed. Many survivors and families still don’t have access to their records.

The incredible organisations that support survivors on the ground are often either volunteer-run or receive project funding only, which doesn’t allow for the workforce and organisational investment needed to build and retain organisations and staff.

Let’s keep the awareness going.
