Georges River Branch had a wonderful guest speaker at our meeting today, Helen, who brought along a beautiful collection of Fijian items as part of this year’s country of study.
There were handmade bowls, colourful tablecloths, sulus, woven mats, straw brooms and lovely leis. She shared many stories about life in Fiji and spoke about the warmth and friendliness of the Fijian people.
We also learned about how people live in Fiji, from their village homes to their strong sense of community and daily life, plus their traditional drink Kava, which has a mild relaxing effect.
To top it off we were delighted to hear a beautiful Fijian love song.
Helen can be seen here having fun trying a sulu on Carol, one of our members. Also a Lei on our member Kerrie.
This was a wonderful way to learn about another culture and appreciate the richness of Fijian traditions.

What a lovely spring day to fly the flag at the Lugarno Lions Community Fair. Ponies, camels, side show alley and show bags as well as our popular handicrafts, jams and of course, our best scones jam and cream. The local Air Cadet band played, singers and dancers of all ages on stage and the beautiful Susie Elelman drew our amazing raffle. Thank you to all who supported us.

A huge heartfelt thank you to the wonderful women of the CWA Georges River Branch for knitting these beautiful outfits for our dolls and stuffed animals.

These lovingly handmade clothes will be treasured in our therapy rooms, where children use dolls and toys in role-play as part of expressive therapy. Through this kind of play, children can safely process what has happened to them, explore feelings, and express emotions that may be too big for words.

Your generosity, talent and creativity not only brighten our shelves but also help us create a nurturing environment where healing can begin. πŸ’›

We're often asked "what can I donate that would be helpful to your guests?"

Every month or so, we put together a list of items to answer that question for you. We update the list so it reflects current needs.

If you're able to donate any of these items, we (and our guests!) would be very grateful if you could please drop them into Reception at Macquarie Home Stay, 1 Tony McGrane Place Dubbo.

Thank you ❀️
