Georges River Branch had a wonderful guest speaker at our meeting today, Helen, who brought along a beautiful collection of Fijian items as part of this yearβs country of study.
There were handmade bowls, colourful tablecloths, sulus, woven mats, straw brooms and lovely leis. She shared many stories about life in Fiji and spoke about the warmth and friendliness of the Fijian people.
We also learned about how people live in Fiji, from their village homes to their strong sense of community and daily life, plus their traditional drink Kava, which has a mild relaxing effect.
To top it off we were delighted to hear a beautiful Fijian love song.
Helen can be seen here having fun trying a sulu on Carol, one of our members. Also a Lei on our member Kerrie.
This was a wonderful way to learn about another culture and appreciate the richness of Fijian traditions.
