💚 Together We Thrive – Because Connection Matters! 🌻

It’s still Mental Health Month, and this year's theme, "Together We Thrive," reminds us that connection, community and a sense of belonging can make a real difference to our mental health and wellbeing.

Staying connected doesn't have to mean big social events or being surrounded by people. Sometimes it's the little things that matter most. 💜

☕ Catching up with a friend over a cuppa
🌿 Going for a walk with someone (or your four-legged friend!)
📞 Picking up the phone to check in on someone
🎨 Joining a community group or enjoying a shared hobby
❤️ Spending quality time with family or people who make you feel supported

Even small moments of connection can help us feel less alone, lift our spirits and remind us that we're part of something bigger.

💬 WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!

What do YOU do to stay connected and look after your mental health?
Is there a person, place, activity or simple routine that helps you feel connected?

👇 Share your ideas in the comments! Your suggestion might inspire someone else to try something new.

Because when we connect, support one another and make space for belonging, Together We Thrive! 💚

💚 WHAT HELPS YOU LOOK AFTER YOUR MENTAL HEALTH?

We all have different ways of getting through tough days and making space for moments that feel good.

Maybe it’s…
🌿 Getting outside for some fresh air
🎵 Listening to your favourite music
🐾 Spending time with a pet
☕ Having a cuppa with someone you trust
🎨 Doing something creative
🛋️ Taking a break or reaching out for support

It doesn’t have to be big, cost money or look like anyone else’s version of self-care. Sometimes, getting through the day is enough.

💬 If you feel comfortable, share one thing that helps you in the comments. Your idea might give someone else something to try.

There’s no right answer, and you’re welcome to simply read along. Please keep comments kind and share only what you’re comfortable making public.

💛🌼 R U OK? Day at Mentis Assist 🌼💛

Today our team came together to celebrate R U OK? Day, bringing a splash of yellow across the office and a reminder of the importance of connection, kindness and checking in with one another.

From yellow-themed treats and delicious snacks to a coffee van that encouraged staff to pause, connect and share a conversation, the day was filled with opportunities to strengthen our workplace community. Bella our Assistance Dog was on hand to check in on everyone and gave us another reason (other than coffee and mateship) to smile. Even the sunshine joined the celebration, making for bright, sunshine-filled moods all around.

R U OK? Day reminds us that a simple conversation can make a meaningful difference. Taking the time to ask, listen and support one another helps create a workplace where everyone feels valued and connected.

💛 A big thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the day so special. Remember, any day is a good day to ask:"Are you OK?" 💛

SOMEONE ON YOUR MIND? MAKE TIME TO CHECK IN.
R U OK Day is Thursday 10 September—but you don’t need to wait for a special day to ask someone how they’re really going
At Mentis Assist, we encourage you to turn caring thoughts into a conversation. Call a friend. Invite a colleague for a cuppa. Make time for someone you haven’t heard from lately.

You don’t need perfect words or all the answers. Start with genuine care, then follow these four steps:

ASK R U OK?
Choose a comfortable, private moment: “You’ve been on my mind. How are you going?”

LISTEN
Give them time to speak, without judgement or rushing to fix things.

ENCOURAGE ACTION
Ask what support would help. Where needed, encourage them to connect with a GP or mental health professional.

CHECK IN
Keep in touch after the conversation. Caring doesn’t end when the cuppa does.

If they’re not ready to talk, respect that. Let them know you’re available.

Your action today: reach out to one person privately and make time to listen.

Conversation tips: www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

And if you’re not OK yourself, you deserve support too. You don’t have to carry everything alone.

Visit www.mentisassist.org.au for more information on programs we offer and how to access support.

For 24/7 crisis support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14. If life is in danger, call 000.

🌸 FOOD & MOOD: A LITTLE TASTE OF SPRING 🍓

Spring has arrived in Melbourne! As the days get brighter, it’s a lovely time to enjoy fresh flavours and the pleasure of eating something you like.

Looking for a little inspiration?

🍓 Add some fruit to your breakfast or enjoy it on its own.
🥣 Try yoghurt with fruit, nuts or seeds for an easy snack.
🥕 Enjoy vegetables in a sandwich, a warm meal or with your favourite dip.
🌿 Take your lunch outside or share a snack and a chat with someone.

Fresh, frozen and tinned foods all have a place. Choose what suits your tastes, budget and needs—simple and convenient counts.

We know food can sometimes feel complicated, and shopping or preparing meals can be hard when you’re not feeling your best. There’s no need for a perfect plate. You deserve nourishment, enjoyment and kindness, whatever your body size or relationship with food. 💚

Food is one part of caring for your wellbeing, alongside connection, rest and the support that’s right for you.

🌼 This spring, what’s one food or flavour you’re looking forward to enjoying?
