“I could never do what you do.”

Lord, people seem offended by the fact that I find this a dismissive comment.

So let me explain.

In no other circumstance would this comment be acceptable to a parent raising a child with a minority background.

It would, in fact, be offensive.

Because what you’re really saying is: This kind of life is unimaginable to you.

And maybe it is.

But this is my child.

Not a situation.
Not a circumstance.
Not a burden to measure.

It is dismissive to the child in that it subtly suggests they exist outside the realm of what’s considered “normal” love and parenting.

As if their needs make them too much.

As if loving them requires something
extraordinary… instead of something deeply human.

I say thank you and go about my day when it’s said to me,

but it’s one that lingers.

Because I didn’t become some exceptional version of a parent.

I became HER parent.

And when it’s your child, you don’t weigh whether you could do it…

You just do.

A Day Well Spent seeing eye 👁️ clinic and getting some good ideas to help with Paige With Her Vision 🥰. Also A Routine X ray showed that Paiges Hips Are looking The Best That They Have For A Long While 👌🥳 So Happy 😁 She’s Pain Free And All The Hardwork Paid Off. Happy Friday 😝
