⚜️ Our Scouts have been BUSY! ⚜️

Over the past few weeks, our Scouts have been getting out there, giving things a go and putting their skills into action!

🎣 Night fishing — patience, persistence and plenty of laughs.
🥾 Night hikes — navigation, teamwork and adventure after dark.
🔥 Cooking experiences — learning new skills, trying new things and, most importantly, getting to eat the results!

Behind all the fun, our Scouts have been working towards their goals, building confidence and developing the skills they need to progress through their Scouting journey.

We couldn't be prouder of what they've achieved over the past few weeks. Keep challenging yourselves, Scouts — the adventure is only getting started! 💚⚜️

🪢 WEDNESDAY NIGHT HIGHLIGHT – THE CLOVE HITCH! 🪢
Ever tied a clove hitch and wondered, “Who actually came up with this?” 🤔
This week we took a look beyond simply how to tie the clove hitch and explored a little of its history and origins.
The clove hitch has been used for centuries, particularly by sailors, and its name dates back to at least the 1700s. ⚓ It became a simple and useful way of securing a rope around a post, spar or pole — and today it remains one of the knots our Scouts use regularly, especially when pioneering. 🪵
Scouting isn't just about learning how to do something. We love giving our youth the chance to discover why we do it and where those skills came from.
One little knot with a whole lot of history! 🪢

🌿🔥 Our Leaders Took on Survival Training! 🔥🌿
Over the weekend, some of our amazing leaders swapped the Scout den for the bush and attended their Survival Course!
They spent the weekend building their skills and learning what to do if they ever found themselves lost or in a survival situation in the Australian bush. 🏕️🧭
Scouting isn't just about our youth learning new skills — our leaders are always learning too! Every new skill they gain is something they can bring back, share and use to create even better adventures for our young people.
A massive BRAVO to our leaders for giving up their weekend, challenging themselves and continuing to grow their Scouting skills. 👏
And from all reports… they had an absolutely amazing time doing it! 😂🌿

Congratulations to our amazing and dedicated Group Leader Lucy Simpson on her Special Service Award. These awards are for individuals who have contributed above and beyond what is expected from their Scouting role and Lucy has definitely shown us all what that means.

BRAVO Lucy

😂 MONDAY SCOUTING WISDOM 😂

Leader: “Here are some poles and rope. Build something useful.”

Venturers: “Say no more.” 😎

🪢 Several knots
🪵 A questionable number of poles
🤔 Some interesting engineering decisions
😂 And absolutely ZERO concern from the Venturers later…

BEHOLD — THE CHAIR 3000! 🪑✨

This is one of the things we love about Scouting. Give young people the skills, give them a challenge, then stand back and watch their creativity take over.

Does it look exactly like the leader imagined?

Absolutely not. 😂

Did they use teamwork, problem-solving, pioneering skills and creativity to make it happen?

Absolutely!

Because sometimes the best Scouting adventures start with…

“I have an idea…” 😬😂

23/08/2026

Ever wondered what happens when Venturers are given a challenge:
“Build a chair you can actually sit on using just 6 poles, some rope and a tarp.”
…and then the leaders leave them to their own devices? 😂
Well… THIS happens.
We proudly present…
🪑✨ THE VENTURE CHAIR 2000! ✨🪑
Is it stylish? Questionable.
Is it structurally sound? Also questionable. 😂
Did they use teamwork, pioneering skills, problem-solving and a whole lot of creativity? Absolutely!
Sometimes the best part of Venturers is giving them the challenge, stepping back, and seeing what they come up with.
⚠️ Disclaimer: No children were hurt in the making of the Venture Chair 2000. Dignity, however, cannot be guaranteed. 😂

💡⚜️ THURSDAY SCOUT FUN FACT!
Did you know that Scouting is one of the largest youth movements in the world? 🌏
Scouting reaches millions of young people across more than 170 countries and territories!
That means when our youth put on their scarf here in Morayfield, they're part of something much bigger than just our local Scout Group.
They're part of a worldwide community of young people learning leadership, independence, resilience, teamwork and how to make a difference in their communities. 💛💚❤️
Different countries.
Different adventures.
One worldwide Scouting family. ⚜️🌏
Pretty cool for something that started with a small experimental camp on Brownsea Island in 1907!

🔥 WEDNESDAY AT MORAYFIELD SCOUTS 🔥
Tonight our Joey Scouts have some pretty awesome teachers… our Scouts! 💚
Our Scouts are taking the lead and teaching the Joeys about fire safety and how to safely light a fire.
The Joeys will learn how to prepare a safe fire area, what they need before lighting a fire, how to safely use matches and, most importantly, how to properly extinguish a fire when they're finished. 🔥💧
But tonight isn't just about learning fire skills.
It's also a fantastic example of youth-led Scouting. Our Scouts get the opportunity to step into a leadership role, share the skills they've learned and build confidence by teaching our younger members.
And our Joeys get to learn from the older youth they may one day become. ❤️💚
Skills passed from one section to the next — that's Scouting. ⚜️

⚜️ TUESDAY SCOUTING SKILLS — Learning to Manage Risk
One of the most important things we teach in Scouting isn't how to avoid every risk.
It's how to recognise risk, think it through and make good decisions.
Before lighting a fire, using tools, heading out on a hike, cooking a meal or taking part in an adventurous activity, our youth are encouraged to stop and think:
🔥 What could go wrong?
🥾 What hazards can we see?
⛑️ What can we do to make it safer?
👥 Who can we ask for help if we need it?
As youth grow through Scouting, leaders gradually step back and give them more responsibility for making these decisions themselves.
Sometimes that means letting them work through a problem rather than immediately giving them the answer.
Because we're not just teaching young people how to be safe at Scouts.
We're helping them develop judgement, confidence, problem-solving and responsibility — skills they'll carry with them long after they leave the Scout hall.
⚜️ Learn by doing. Grow through experience. Be Prepared.

🏕️ MONDAY SCOUTING TRUTH…
Leader: “Does everyone have their water bottle?”
Youth: “YES!”
Leader: “Hat?”
Youth: “YES!”
Leader: “Buddy?”
Youth: “YES!”
Leader: “Awesome. Let’s go!”
Approximately 37 seconds later…
Youth: “I can’t find my water bottle.”
Leader: 😐
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why Scout Leaders repeat themselves approximately 4,762 times per activity. 😂
But behind all those reminders is something pretty important — we’re teaching our youth to take responsibility for themselves, their gear and each other.
One day they’ll remember everything without us asking…
Probably.
