Have you ever wondered if your child needs a child car restraint on a school excursion or group bus trip? 🚌

Travelling on a bus can be an exciting adventure for them, but it's a whole difference experience in terms of travel and safety on the road. While there's a different set of road rules for buses, Kidsafe always recommends using an appropriate child car restraint or booster seat wherever possible for maximum protection on every journey.

Did you know all vehicles have blind spots behind AND in front of them?

A child can be hidden from view, even when they’re close to your vehicle.
Before moving, walk around your vehicle and check for children. Cameras and sensors can help, but they don’t replace checking yourself.

Some of Kidsafe Victoria’s most important work can’t always be funded through traditional grants or sponsorships.

🗣️ Advocacy is one example: It’s the work that helps influence policy, shape legislation and push for the changes that can make Victoria safer for children.

That’s why we’re working hard to diversify our funding, from growing our online and in-person courses to building new partnerships and developing new sources of revenue.

Because sustainable funding means we can keep doing the work that needs to be done, not just the work that happens to be funded. We’re a small charity with a big responsibility. And we’re building a stronger, more sustainable future for Kidsafe Victoria, together.

It’s easy to think of a driveway as just another extension of the yard, but in reality, driveways, garages and carparks carry the exact same hazards as regular roads. Young children move fast, and even with modern reversing cameras, every vehicle has blind spots.

Swipe to learn 3 simple rules to help keep kids safe around driveways and carparks ➡️

Supervise: Always hold hands near vehicles, driveways and carparks. Double-check who is watching the kids before turning the key, or bring them inside the car with you if you’re home alone.

🚧 Separate: Treat driveways and garages like roads. Keep play areas completely fenced off and block access using self-closing gates and high door handles.

👀 See: Do a quick walk around your vehicle before driving off rather than relying on cameras and sensors alone, and teach children to wait in a designated ‘safe spot’ well out of the car’s path.
