In 2023, Amanpreet’s world was turned upside down when her 3-year-old son, Nihal, tragically drowned after stepping onto an unsecured septic pit lid at a housewarming party on a rural property.

Devastatingly, Nihal’s death was completely preventable and not an isolated incident. To honour her son and make sure no other family has to endure this pain, Amanpreet is bravely sharing her story.

To a curious toddler, a floating toy or debris in a farm dam looks like an adventure waiting to happen 🌾💧

However, natural water sources like dams, creeks and ponds hide unseen dangers. Muddy banks can be incredibly slippery, meaning a child can easily lose their footing and accidentally fall into the water while trying to reach the item that’s caught their eye.

Small changes around the farm can prevent big risks. Learn more at https://www.kidsafevic.com.au/water-safety/

Today, we hold Hunter and his family close to our hearts as we mark the anniversary of his passing 🤍

We are deeply grateful to his parents, Ash and Matt, who bravely share their experience and honour his memory through The Hunter Boyle Childrens Swim Program to help our community understand the unique water risks on farms and protect our littlest adventurers.

🚶‍♀️ 🚲 🛴 Walk it. Wheel it. Ride it. Be a safety champion at your local school or kinder and organise a fun, fresh-air fundraiser for Kidsafe Victoria! 💛

📅 Pick a day or even a whole week and encourage your community to swap the usual school drop-off for a Safe Travel Day. Turn the journey to school into something meaningful, active and community-minded.

Ask families to bring along a gold coin donation, pop on a helmet, slow down around driveways and enjoy the fresh air together.

It’s a simple way to:
✨ Get kids and families moving
🚦 Start conversations about road safety
💛 Build safer habits around the school community
💰 Raise funds to help Kidsafe Victoria continue creating safer communities for children

And, of course, bonus points if everyone actually remembers where they left their helmets. 😉

Do your kids constantly ask to ride in the front seat? 🚘

It might feel like a big milestone to them, but keeping kids safe in the car comes down to best practice, not just the law.

While Victorian road rules outline the minimum requirements for front seat use, Kidsafe strongly recommends keeping all children in the back seat until they are at least 12 years old (and pass the 5-Step Test).

Have questions about front seat safety or other road rules? Drop it in the comments! 📨
