Tom Steinfort (MOC 2002), Patrick Steinfort (MOC 1996), Daniel Steinfort (MOC 1992) and Carl Steinfort (MOC 1994) were front and centre to witness Australia’s thrilling 2–0 FIFA World Cup opening victory over Turkey.

The Steinfort boys proudly flew the green and gold as the Socceroos' celebrated Victory.

A fantastic moment for a proud Mazenod family, sharing in the excitement of Australia’s World Cup journey on the world stage.

Nishan Velupillay (MOC 2019) made his FIFA World Cup debut after being brought on during the Australia men's national soccer team' 2–0 victory over Turkey.

This is a proud moment for Nishan, his family, and the entire Mazenod community. Your hard work, dedication, and perseverance have taken you to football's biggest stage.

Mazenod Old Collegian Ryan Koroknai (Class of 2017), whose dedication to both music and sport continues to exemplify the values of service, discipline and excellence.

Ryan's musical journey began in Year 7 when his brother brought home an Aldi trumpet — a moment that sparked a lifelong passion for music. Following his graduation from Mazenod College in 2017, Ryan was awarded a scholarship to the University of Melbourne, where he studied a Bachelor of Music from 2018 to 2020 before enlisting in the Australian Army Reserve on 31 January 2020.

Ryan transitioned to full-time service in the Australian Army on 31 March 2022 and has since been posted to Canberra as a musician with the Band of the Royal Military College, Duntroon. One of the highlights of his military career has been performing the bugle call at the National ANZAC Day Dawn Service — an honour carrying immense significance and responsibility.

Away from music, Ryan is also an accomplished cyclist with achievements at both national and international level. He began cycle racing at just seven years of age and set a junior Australian record in the team pursuit at age 15. Since then, he has continued to excel in elite competition, including:

Bronze medal at the 2026 Elite National Track Cycling Championships (Elimination Race)
Two top-10 placings at the 2025 National Track Cycling Championships
Winner of the 2025 ADF Cycling National Championship Road Race
Represented Australia at the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships
Selected again to represent Australia at the 2026 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Japan later this year

In recognition of his achievements and commitment to elite sport, Ryan was recognised as a High Performance Sports Participant within the Australian Defence Force in April 2026.

Congratulations Ryan on your outstanding accomplishments both on stage and on the track. Your dedication, perseverance and pursuit of excellence continue to make the Mazenod community proud.

Nishan Velupillay Selected for Australia’s FIFA World Cup Squad

Nishan Velupillay (MOC 2019) has been selected to represent Australia at the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Nishan, who plays for Melbourne Victory, has made six appearances for the Australia men's national soccer team, scoring three goals.

He secured his place in the squad following an impressive 30-minute performance against Mexico on the weekend.

Australia will play Switzerland in a friendly on 7 June before opening its World Cup campaign against Turkey on 14 June. The Socceroos will then face the United States on 20 June and Paraguay on 26 June.

Nishan was a key member of Mazenod College’s highly successful 2019 Senior Soccer team, led by Emilio Montoya(MOC 1995), which claimed both the Senior ACC Premiership and the Melbourne City FC Premier Schools Tournament title.

The Mazenod College community congratulates Nishan on this outstanding achievement and wishes him every success as he represents Australia on football’s biggest stage.

Dimosthenis “Deon” Manasis (MOC2002) has been presented with the 2026 Leave to Serve Award, inducting him into the Mazenod College Alumni Awards.

Deon is the Director and Instructor of the MANASIS School of Greek Dance and Culture, a Melbourne-based cultural school dedicated to preserving, teaching and sharing Greek identity through dance, education and performance.

His work has taken Greek culture into schools, community events, aged care settings, fundraising initiatives and international stages, while keeping service and belonging at the heart of his mission.

After receiving the award at Friday's assembly, Deon wrote to the College reflecting on the lasting influence of his time at Mazenod, describing the College as part of the foundation that shaped his values, resilience and sense of purpose.

The Leave to Serve Award recognises Old Collegians whose lives reflect meaningful action, leadership and service to others. Deon’s contribution to culture, community and education is a fitting example of that spirit.

MATTHEW CAMERON PATON, RIP
It is with great sadness that the Mazenod Old Collegians’ Association (MOCA) announces the death of Sergeant Matthew Cameron Paton (Class of 1990).
Matthew died after a tragic accident in Peru.
We pray for Matthew’s Soul. May Almighty God grant Matthew His Eternal love, peace, mercy and joy.
May Almighty God strengthen and console all of Matthew’s family, friends, and all his colleagues in Victoria Police, in their immense grief.
May Almighty God grant Eternal Rest to Matthew, O Lord, and let Perpetual Light shine upon him. May Matthew’s Soul Rest in Peace. Amen.

2012 Founders’ Day

This was the last Founders’ Day Mass celebrated in the gym prior to the opening of The Provence in 2013. Masses and assemblies were held in the gym, now known as Oblate Hall, and many students will remember sitting on the floor in their class groups on numerous occasions.

Founders’ Day is a significant event on the College calendar, providing an opportunity to reflect on St Eugene de Mazenod and the priests who have answered the call to continue his work. While these photos offer an overview of the day, they cannot capture the beautiful music that accompanies the celebration, performed by the talented musicians of the College community.
