Neighborhood Watch is a community based crime prevention program aimed at reducing the incidence of preventable crime and creating safer communities. Members work with Police & local communities to promote crime prevention activities related to home and personal safety, work at community events and assist local police in encouraging the public to report suspicious behavior. It takes seconds to steal a number plate. It only takes minutes to help secure one.
✅ Secure your number plates with anti-theft screws or pop rivets.
✅ Park in a garage or driveway where possible.
✅ Consider sensor lighting and CCTV at home.
✅ Park in well-lit areas when on the street.

Stolen number plates are often used to avoid identification while committing offences, which can leave vehicle owners dealing with unwanted fines and other complications.

Through our SafePL8 program, Victoria Police, SES and Neighbourhood Watch regularly attend community events to fit anti-theft screws and share practical advice on keeping your number plates secure.

Number plate theft is a big issue in Victoria and it can take thieves less than 10 seconds to get one off with a standard screwdriver.

Once stolen, plates get put on other vehicles and used for fuel theft, ram raids, evading police, or racking up fines that land in your letterbox for offences you didn't commit.

Swap your standard plate screws for one-way, anti-theft screws. They go on with a normal screwdriver but can't be removed without a special tool - the job is done in about two minutes. Grab a set at Bunnings or come along to one of our Safe Plate events, where our volunteers will fit them for a gold coin donation.
