Hello fellow human rights members! Our AGM is coming up quickly, and we need YOU to come out in force to support! We have three Executive positions up for grabs, which are great for getting some experience and helping your fellow humans. No experience required, and DUSA will show you the ropes early next year. Please dm or email us and we’ll send you the nomination form. If you’re not interested in an Exec position please show up anyway, as we need to make quorum to run next year! This meeting will be short and sweet, shouldn’t run over 15-30 mins. Details of the AGM below.

Everyone has the right to seek safety.

World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe. It falls each year on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. World Refugee Day is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for their plight and to recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives.

Today is Sorry Day.

Every day we mourn for our mob and people who were forcibly removed from their homes, Country, Family, Culture and Community.

We remember the mistreatment of our kids, the intergenerational trauma and ongoing affects experienced by survivors, their families and communities.

The colonisers and govt knew the destructive nature of their inherently racist policies and what it would do to our mob. The impact of removing any child from their family is well known and does irreversible damage to everyone involved. This was deliberate and the harms caused were intentional.

Stolen Generations are still happening. Our children are being removed in unprecedented numbers. What we need is resources and interventions to prevent removals and state sanctioned harm. This is what works towards, we want to abolish harmful systems, keep families together and create safer communities.

Today and every day we recognise the ongoing hurt, injustice and trauma experienced by mob, fuelled by systemic racism that is upheld by the colonial state.

We acknowledge the strength of our mob who survived and continue to survive despite the govts best attempts to destroy us.

We call on wider Australia to learn, recognise, acknowledge and take action to prevent further harm to our mob through state sanctioned violence of forced removals.

The elimination of racism has been a challenging battle over many years and is just as important to acknowledge everyday.

Today we observe annually the day police in Sharpeville, South Africa opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid “pass laws” in 1960.

The theme this year focuses on “Voices for action against racism” where the importance of strengthening meaningful and safe public participation and representation to prevent and combat racial discrimination.

This simple message can be a powerful drive to encourage people everywhere to strengthen and unite their voices against racism. In saying that, what can you do to help?

The answer is simple.

Educate, Advocate, Reflect and Support.
