Hazard reduction burn – Mitchell

Queensland Fire and Rescue and the Rural Fire Service team will be undertaking a planned burn in Mitchell at 5:00pm this afternoon, Wednesday 8 October 2025.

The fire mitigation measure will allow an excess fuel load to be burnt off around the outskirts of the Mitchell township in preparation for the upcoming summer months.

It is recommended that windows and doors are kept closed during this time and those who may suffer from a respiratory condition should keep their medication close by.

Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads with motorists urged to drive with caution and to conditions.

Maranoa Regional Council will continue to monitor the site post burn with residual smoke expected in the days after.

Council appreciates residents’ cooperation during this time while works to better our region take place.
