9 years ago we picked up our book River People from Bethany Press, the hometown (Minneapolis) printer for our publisher YWAM Publishing. Writing was a long journey and a lot of work. Special thanks to Janice Cunningham’s authors training courses. An even bigger thanks to Scott Tompkins for the long process of shaping and editing the story and to final editor Ryan Davis and the many others at YWAM Publishing for the photos, cover, layout and ongoing marketing and sales.
Being published has been a wonderful experience as it has opened doors, made connections, served as an inspiration to many and has been a marvelous tool for evangelism and training. Thank you to all who have read the book. The more we look back the more we realize that literally hundreds of people were a part of the story, from our Brazilian friends and colleagues in the Amazon to our parents, family, friends, supporters and church members in: Adelaide, Fridley, Mentor, Erskine, Fort Frances, Omaha, Rockford, Des Moines, Atlanta, Palos Verdes, Marina Del Rey, Weiser, Nashville and more and YWAM bases in Los Angeles, Pasadena, San Diego, Tijuana, Honolulu, Kona, Denver, Chico, Tyler, Lindale, Madison, Nashville, Orlando and of course the three YWAM bases in the Amazon that were our home and our help for 12 years: Manaus, Porto Velho and the Tribal Ministries leadership and Lábrea.
You may be encouraged to know that in the 30 years since the first River People church was started as told in the book, today the House of the Father and Igreja da Paz network of churches is now around 1000 believers in almost one dozen church fellowships in the municipality of Lábrea. With the Igreja da Paz church in town being about 400 worshippers each Sunday night. 30 years ago about 300 Christians from 5 churches and 5 denominations participated in the first March for Jesus started by YWAM Lábrea. Last year the City of Lábrea passed a resolution making the March for Jesus an official (and city funded) municipal event. There were approximately 15,000 participants (over 1/3 of the population) from 51 churches and 17 denominations in this year’s March for Jesus. What started as a mustard seed is now a large and ever growing tree! PTL
