Speech: Stepping Down as Coordinator of Mitchell’s Biggest Morning Tea
Thank you all for being here—not just to share a cuppa and some cake, but to continue supporting such an important cause through Mitchell’s Biggest Morning Tea.
As many of you know, I’ve had the honour of coordinating this event for the past ten years. What started as a small gathering has grown into something truly special—thanks to the generosity, spirit, and support of this incredible community. Together, we’ve raised awareness, raised funds, and most importantly, come together for something bigger than ourselves.
But today, I want to share that this will be my last year as coordinator.
After a decade of planning, baking, calling, emailing, decorating, and doing countless dishes—I feel it’s time to hand over the reins. Not because the event is any less important to me, but because fresh energy, new ideas, and new leadership can take it even further.
Over the years, many of you have offered advice, suggestions, and shared how you’d do things differently—and I’ve appreciated every bit of it. In fact, that’s part of why I’m opening this role up to anyone who feels passionate about carrying it forward. If you’ve ever thought, “Why don’t they do it this way?” or “I would have done that differently,”—now’s your chance! Step up, take the lead, and make your mark.
Before I finish, I want to take a moment to thank the people who have truly been with me from day one—my family. Your support, patience, encouragement, and practical help over the years has meant more than I can say. You’ve packed cars, stacked chairs, washed up, smiled through the stress, and stood beside me through it all. I couldn’t have done this without you, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
So with a full heart and an open door, I’m stepping back and making space for someone new. I’ll still be here—just on the other side of the table, cup in hand, ready to cheer you on.
Thank you all—for everything.
