August is Rural Road Safety Month, an initiative led by the Australian Road Safety Foundation.

Rural roads can be long, isolated and unforgiving, and when something goes wrong, help can be a long way away.

In 2025, 906 people lost their lives on rural roads in Australia. Behind every number is a person, a family and a community impacted by road trauma.

Higher speeds, fatigue, long distances and changing road conditions can all increase the risk. That’s why every decision behind the wheel matters.

This Rural Road Safety Month, we’re supporting the message that safer roads start with safer choices.

Slow down. Stay alert. Take breaks. Drive to the conditions. And make sure you get home safely.

While Bernie didn't take home the Volunteer Service Award this year, we couldn't be prouder of her. Being named one of just three finalists from more than 45 nominations is an incredible achievement and a testament to her commitment to road safety.

Thank you to Janine and her family for so generously sharing their story during this year's Transport Accident Commission (TAC) Road Safety Round.

After the loss of her son Elias, Janine has chosen to honour his memory by speaking about the importance of making safe choices on our roads. Together with her son, Joaquim, their courage and willingness to share such a personal experience is helping raise awareness and inspire others to think differently every time they are on our roads.

A big thank you to our incredible lived experience volunteer speaker, Eloise, for so courageously sharing her story in the recent Transport Accident Commission (TAC) newsletter.

In 2022, a serious crash changed Eloise's life in an instant, taking her from nurse to patient. Today, she has worked tirelessly to build a new normal, returning to her passion for travel while advocating for safer roads so others don't have to experience what she has.

By sharing her lived experience, Eloise is helping to encourage safer choices on our roads. Thank you, Eloise, for being such a powerful voice for road safety 💛
