Amber Community

Amber Community We are a not-for-profit organisation contributing to the safety and wellbeing of road users. Sessions may be conducted face-to-face, online or by telephone.

Amber Community was founded in 1994 by a small group of people whose lives had been directly impacted by road trauma. These people understood the need for a specialist service where support could be offered to those who, like them, were suffering because of the injury or loss of a loved one on the roads. They joined with professionals working in the area to provide counselling and support. From th

is humble beginning in 1994, Amber Community has grown to offer state-wide counselling, support and education services to individuals affected by a road incident. Counselling sessions are free of charge, confidential and unlimited in number for people affected by a collision on the roads (or involving any public transport), whenever this may have occurred. You do not need a referral to access our services. Our clients include bereaved families, friends and colleagues; injured people and carers; drivers and passengers; and people who were first on scene – witnesses, citizens who offered assistance, and emergency service workers. We are not a crisis service; our office hours are between 9 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday. If you need to speak to someone urgently, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14. Amber Community is committed to educating the community and raising public awareness about road trauma and how it affects people’s lives. We do this by positively influencing driver attitudes and behaviours with the aim of reducing crashes and the resulting trauma.

Amber Community’s Road Trauma Support Group offers a safe, supportive space to:
- Learn practical coping strategies
- Explore post-traumatic growth

Facilitated by an experienced counsellor, the program runs online, 1.5 hours weekly for 4 weeks, with a small group to ensure everyone gets the support they need.

“Joining the group has given me so much, including practical ways to cope, like better sleep and calming exercises. Most importantly, I realised I’m not alone on this journey.”

Supporting Victorians impacted by road trauma is central to our work at the TAC, and we were proud to join the community at last weekend’s Amber Community Walk and Wheel.

Hundreds gathered at Albert Park Lake to honour loved ones lost or injured on our roads.

The annual event raises vital funds for Amber Community counselling and support services. Each year, Amber Community supports more than 5,000 Victorians impacted by road trauma through free counselling and support. Its education programs reach over 5,000 people annually to raise awareness and prevent future road trauma.
