Its time to say goodbye to our MOW Mission Beach home / building after over 42 years.
The place of providing meals , meetings and most of all kindness .
We needed help due to lack of people in the community who would step up to be President , Vice President , Treasurer , Secretary etc.
The same people could not continue for years on end.
The decision was made to go into a partnership with Cairns MOW who have paid staff, muliple chefs . MOW vehicles etc. And can provide Frozen meals. Cairns MOW kindly stepped up. This is an australia wide issue with volunteering and other Meals on Wheels in the region have made the same move.
There is a lot of government compliance with Aged Care which has increased over the years and has become more cumbersome and complicated.
It was around this time the CCRC predictably decided to take the building back after tens of thousands of dollars in upgrades by grants , donations from NOT FOR PROFITS and individuals over the years. The taking back of buildings from clubs and services is not new and in many ways understandable for rate payers , i am in fact are a rate payer as are many Volunteers .
It is the WAY it has been done with total disregard or consultation with those who have been using the building and providing a SERVICE for many years. THE council need to look at the unprofessional way they treat residents and rate payers.๐
Moving on MOW MB has now moved to Marcs Park and will continue to service our in need communuty members and the elderley , we have a kind community minded band of Volunteers who will continue to service the community . We may have moved buildings but will continue to be around for a long time.
We welcome Oskar who is the new coordinator and may be contacted on [email protected]
Thank you to all in our community who have assisted in various ways , donated, cooked, delivered , mowed the laws , provided maintenance etc over the years
