This Bush Stone-curlew that came in nine days ago unable to stand.
With five days of medication, plenty of rest and a few days exercise, we were ready to go home as we planned.
On the way back in the car, became very vocal as we got close to home.
Often the case with our wildlife that know where their territories are.

Apparently it's World Sea Turtle Day.

To people like us,
Mission Beach Wildcare Inc Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre
Girringun Aboriginal Corporation Mandubarra Aboriginal Land & Sea Inc
Magnetic Island Network for Turtles
It's World Sea Turtle Day every day.
On call, never knowing when the next call for help will come in.
We have it covered from South of Townsville, right up to The Cape and beyond.
We are all in it for the right reasons.

One thing we can tell you, is that we would never disclose a mature female's nest, where she has hidden her babies, to the public.
We have more respect for these wonderful mums.

One of our local breeding Brahminy kites that has been in the area for at least ten years that we know of.
With several Osprey nests in the area, stealing food in flight is one of there favorite ways of scavenging food.

Rescued a young Echidna this morning.
No tracks from the dune vegetation down to where it was located.
If it swam/ washed out of a nearby creek, it certainly had a good morning surf.
Good to see our locals call us promptly when wildlife is spotted on the beach.

An update on this juvenile Blue-Winged Kookaburra that came in on the 14th May.
It was hit by a car near Euramo and brought to Tropical Vets for assessment.
We classified as a long term rehab and are very pleased with her progress.
We are finally up on the high perch in the larger aviary, and with further growth of tail feathers we will be on target for a successful release.

Blue-wings are vulnerable to be victims of road strike due to being a slow flying bird.
Pythons , Qolls and Goannas are their biggest predators.
If you take wildlife in to a vet, please make sure you tell them where it came from.
Thanks

Rescued this Bush stone-curlew this evening.
Was apparently sitting there all day with passers by not noticing anything wrong.
After examination, appears to have some bruising to the leg but no break.
With anti- inflammatories, pain relief and rest, hopefully will return home in a few days time.

This unfortunate Black Kite was badly burnt hunting during a cane farm burn.
To top it off was clipped by a car trying to get across the road.
With the injuries sustained, there was no guarantee a positive outcome could be achieved. With a molting cycle up to twelve months, it was decided not to this bird of prey through a traumatic recovery.

One of our favorite rescues when people are scared sh*tless of these guys.
This Monitor decided it was too cold outside lately and decided to take up residence.
Fast facts,
Forked Tongues: They are the only lizards with a forked tongue, flicking it to gather scent molecules in the air just like snakes do.
Venom Glands: Contrary to the old belief that their bites are purely infected, it was discovered that monitors possess venom glands similar to snakes.

Take care
