🌟 It's National Youth Volunteer Week! 🌟

This week (10–16 Aug) we're celebrating young Aussies who show up and lead in their communities — this year's theme is Your Year to Lead. 👏

Did you know volunteering with older Australians is one of the most rewarding ways to do that? Through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS), volunteers spend a couple of hours a fortnight visiting an older person — sharing a chat, a cuppa, and genuine connection. Small commitment, huge difference. 💛

Know a young person looking for a meaningful way to give back this year? We'd love to hear from you!

👉 Get in touch to find out how to become an ACVVS volunteer with Care in Motion.

The Australian Government, through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), is introducing AusAlert, which will become Australia’s new national emergency messaging system.

To support the upcoming National Test, SAFECOM is working with NEMA, local government, and emergency services partners to deliver community information sessions and engagement activities across South Australia. These activities are designed to help communities understand what AusAlert is, why it is being introduced, and what to expect during the National Test.

What we’re doing in your area
• The SAFECOM AusAlert engagement team will be visiting Clare on Thursday 16 July 2026.
• We will be conducting a pop-up information display at Ennis Park, outside the Town Hall, 229 Main North Road, Clare SA 5453, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
• There is no need to register. Community members can simply pop past the information display any time during our visit, speak with SAFECOM staff, ask questions, and collect printed information.
• A Facebook event has been created for this visit: Clare AusAlert Facebook event

We encourage local community groups, businesses, service providers, sporting clubs, volunteer organisations, schools, aged care providers, disability services, government agencies, and members of the public to come along and learn more about AusAlert.

💛 Loneliness Awareness Week, running from 3–9 August, is a wonderful reminder of how much a friendly visit, a good chat, or a shared moment can brighten someone’s day. At Care in Motion, we see the value of connection every day through our Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme. If you’d like to learn more about becoming involved or how ACVVS could support someone you know, please get in touch with us.

Aged care contributions must be fair, transparent and protected by strong, accessible hardship safeguards.
That principle applies directly to the Higher Everyday Living Fee (HELF) - an optional fee for extra services in residential aged care that go beyond the standard care and services every resident is entitled to.

OPAN has created a fact sheet to support older people, their families and support network to understand what HELF is and what an older person’s rights are when accessing HELF in residential aged care.
