🌏 Today is World Environment Day. The planet doesn’t argue. It sends signals - rising seas, raging wildfires, heatwaves, melting glaciers.

We said 1.5°C was the limit. We are crossing it.

But beneath the noise, another signal is rising. Solar panels stretch across rooftops. Wind turbines line the horizon. Cities are being redesigned. Forests are being replanted. Positive tipping points are taking root.

World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June to raise global awareness and encourage action for the protection of the environment.

This year’s campaign calls on all of us to step in and help steer a world already in motion.

🌿 Hello winter 🐨 Cool mornings, clear days - honestly one of the best times to get outside in Queensland.

Less heat and humidity = easier to get moving and stay outdoors longer 🦘

National news 🚴 The Federal has invested in active travel with a commitment of $500 million over 10 years to extend its national active travel infrastructure program, announced in the 2026–27 Budget.

The program supports the upgrade and construction of walking and cycling pathways, building on earlier projects that have delivered local connections across the country and been widely embraced by communities.

The aim is to increase active transport participation through better infrastructure and importantly, many cities and regions with existing bike plans and transport strategies may already be well positioned to develop and submit projects for future funding.

Good news story: Students rescued from national park, trapped behind rising floodwaters.

This month, 48 students and teachers on a school camp near Mount Barney were trapped behind rising floodwaters and unable to return to their accommodation - as reported by ABC News.

Queensland Fire Department swift water rescue crews, in tandem with the State Emergency Service, used a boat to ferry the stranded students and teachers across the flooded road, returning them to dry land safely.

It’s a timely reminder that conditions can change quickly, and why staying vigilant during heavy or unexpected rainfall is so important.
