📝 A note from Dr Louise Ludlow!

CIKA: Cancer In Kids Auxiliary at RCH Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne has been a valuable and enthusiastic financial supporter of the Bio Bank for many years and recently Dr Louise Ludlow (Manager of the Children’s Cancer Centre Biobank at Murdoch Children’s Research Centre) attended the ISBER conference in Shenzhen China.

In an email to the CIKA team Louise stated that “It was a fantastic meeting packed with stimulating and interesting discussions! It was great to connect with old colleagues and make new connections“ 🙌🏻

🚜 The annual Heywood Tractor Trek is one that is supported by many in the local community and on the 9th of May this year a compliment of 24 tractors and drivers set off from Heywood AG Sales & Service - Heywood and Mount Gambier

A very busy weekend was planned with the first trek to the Heywood Pellet Factory then on to the Mt Clay saw pit for a catch up and lunch 🥪

A visit to the Pioneers Wagon Shed then onto the Narrawong chicken farm for a tour then back to Pioneers Wagon Shed to set up for the overnight camp 🐓

The evening went underway where 60 plus people attended and enjoyed the evening dinner .
Once dinner concluded the live auctions were underway with spot prizes adding some excitement to the event. A great result from the auctions was achieved and thank you to all involved with the items donated and sold.

After a family breakfast the next morning, a journey was undertaken to the Lime Quarry Stock feed with a return for a final get together and lunch at the Heywood Pioneer Wagon shed.

The weather was kind, a lot of fun was had and over 60 kms were tractor driven. A big shout out to Darryl Melano and his crew who put this all together 🙏🏼

An amazing $5,000 was raised and this amount is part of the run in projects leading into the Wood Days 🪵

Well done to not only the organisers and the drivers plus their families. You not only had fun but have contributed to “Funding Research to Find A Cure“ @ CIKA: Cancer In Kids Auxiliary at RCH Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne

🪵 Hands up who has catered for a 3 course meal for 160 people in the bush? 😆🙋🏽‍♀️🙋🏽 We did!

This time last week our bellies were full after a delicious meal of soup, camp oven cooked meats, veggies and of course desserts! 🤤

📣 🎶 The crowd was entertained by our wonderful live band and an auction with all funds raised going to CIKA: Cancer In Kids Auxiliary at RCH Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne

🙏🏼 We continue to remain humbled and eternally grateful to the volunteers who make this happen - friends and family who provide, cook, serve and clean, the band and Aaron our auctioneer who return year after year, people who donate goods and services and our community who continue to show up and support our event - Thank you 🙏🏼

🪵 Farm Foods Australia have been generous donors of meat for the Lions Clubs barbecue at Wood Days for many years and over the 2 day event a lot of sausages and hamburgers are sold!! 🌭

💰One of the directors of Farm Foods, Nick Kerr, was approached for a comment about the longevity of their donation. Nick commented that the cancer journey with his friend Shawn, had had a great impact on him and he was also influenced by the visit he made to the Biobank in Melbourne at The RCH, a project that was financed by profits from Wood Days.

🤗 So, many years down the track Farm Foods continues to provide product for this 2 day event and as Nick said, “It is a privilege to help and Farm Foods will do so as long as is required.”

Nick acknowledged the support and dedication of the Duyvestyn and Lehrer families to raising funds for CIKA: Cancer In Kids Auxiliary at RCH Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne but it is us who would like to send thanks to YOU all at Farm Foods 🙏🏼

🪵 As we wind down from the 30th Annual Wood Days weekend, we reflect on the masses of volunteers who return year after year to help make it all happen.

🤩 Darryl Melano and Michelle Eichler of Heywood AG Sales & Service - Heywood and Mount Gambier have been long term supporters of Wood Days. “Many years ago we came to check out Christine and Andrew at Wood Days and since then we have been keen supporters of this annual event“ said their daughter Mia.

💰 In 2012 Darryl contacted Andrew and asked him why he had not been into his shop for a donation for Wood Days and the evolution of this conversation was that each year Heywood Ag would donate a chain saw for the live auction, plus a great friendship between the two couples was established.

💪🏼 There are always plenty of jobs to be done on the “Wood Days” block and Darryl along with Michelle have been happy to roll up the sleeves to assist with cutting fire wood, building and road maintenance and any other project that comes their way.

🏡 Michelle and Darryl have found that the block has become a “home away from home“ and many an evening has been spent sitting around the fire , enjoying lovely meals and taking the time to talk about new projects that could be undertaken. Over the time of their involvement Michelle and Darryl have experienced a great evolution of different events at Wood Days.

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Their enthusiasm for the Wood Days has encouraged many of their family and friends to volunteer for the Wood Days weekend and they are very proud of being part of a team that raises money for research into cancerous solid tumours in children.

🟢 Bidding opens 11am Friday 7th Nov, 2025
🔴 Bidding closes 11am Sunday 9th of Nov, 2025

1. To make a bid for an Online Auction item, simply enter your bid amount in the comment section of the photo you wish to bid on.

2. Once the auction is declared closed at 11am Sunday the 9th of November, the highest bid entered on the comment section shall constitute the winning bid and will so be marked. In the event of a dispute, Wood Days Admin will act as the final authority.

3. The winning bidder will be contacted, via Facebook message, to arrange payment (cash or direct deposit) and to arrange pick up or delivery of the item.

4. ALL PROCEEDS of this raffle will be donated direct to the Cancer in Kids Auxiliary (CiKA) at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

5. If an item is left unclaimed for 48 hours it will be offered to the next highest bidder and sold.
