Thousands of our fellow local & further afield CFS volunteers stood ready, yesterday, to drop whatever they were doing to step up & help their communities in the event of a fire.
Temperatures were in the mid 40’s, the humidity was super low & the winds gusty & variable. Add to that a dense, dry fuel load & you have potential disaster if a fire starts.
As a CFS volunteer you are working in difficult, uneven terrain – all whilst wearing the required personal protective clothing.
This is not a normal work environment.
More extreme weather is expected on Tuesday & later this week – into the 40’s again.
Don’t be fooled by lower temperatures on the days in between – fuel loading & curing, together with a decent wind still dictates dangerous fire behaviour.
We are proud to be part of this CFS family that relies on dedication & resilience to deliver the service in high risk environments – at zero labour cost – an important point in times of financial/time pressure.
If you see a CFS member anywhere from any Brigade, take the time to let them know you appreciate their service.
One day, you might just need them.
Stay Safe People.
