South East Family History Group

South East Family History Group SEFHG Resource Centre provides access to local records as well as national and international information. Advice is available to assist with research.

There are many benefits to becoming a member of a family history group, either in the area you live or where your research interests lie. Family History groups such as ours, which is the only one in Limestone Coast, provides access to not only local records but national and international information, but more importantly advice and assistance in how to go about researching your family history. Mos

t people don't know where to start but a few quick hints to get them on the right track and a demonstration of how to find information is usually all that is needed to get them enthused. Why not consider becoming a member and taking advantage of our modest membership rates. This will give you free access to all physical and digital records we hold, whose titles you can search in the catalogue. Membership will also allow you to learn from the free courses we run, join us on excursions, attend general meetings with interesting speakers and receive the quarterly newsletter and monthly eNews. On top of this members are entitled to 2 hours free research carried out on their behalf, each year. You will find membership information and forms on the Members Page of our website www.sefhg.org

We look forward to seeing you in person or hearing from you, if you live out of our region.

Monthly meeting Thursday evening 25th June at 7.30 p.m. to be held in the SEFHG Club Rooms Mt. Gambier Road MIllicent. Guest speaker for the evening will be Brian Foster talking about his connection with the Wreck of the Geltwood over many years. Brian has been fortunate to have dived on the Geltwood site many times and has a fascinating story to tell. Disaster struck only 100 days out on her maiden voyage from Harrington Harbour in Cumbria on the west coast of England where she was launched on January 7, 1876. Sadly 31 lives were lost on this journey.
Working on installing the anchor in the Millicent Museum 9/11/1986 are Deone Widdison, Andre Vanderhorst, Iain Steweart and Chris McCourt with Brian Foster right, gingerly removing the skate from under the ball of the stock.
