Gone Fishing Days are starting to roll through with some of our first events over the weekend already pulling in fish, smiles, and great memories out on the water.
In Moree, on Gomeroi Country in NSW's north-west, First Nations families fished along the Mehi River and caught over 30 fish.
The big highlight? Native fish outnumbered invasive European Carp by two to one. An impressive 20 were native Golden Perch (Yellowbelly), compared to just 10 invasive European Carp!
Over on the east coast along the Clarence River in Northern NSW, families and kids enjoyed fishing for bream and flathead, pulling in some donated fishing gear from local businesses, and perfecting their skills with a casting competition.
A big thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the day a success!
The Moree event was funded by the Australian Government through the One Basin CRC program with support from BCF – Boating, Camping, Fishing.
The Clarence River event was run by Grafton District Anglers Club, supported by OzFish, The Bait Place Yamba, and BCF – Boating, Camping, Fishing.
