The next four days are going to be very busy here at the Rodney Fox & Mark Tozer Museum and Research Centre!
With a number of private events booked in, the team has been hard at work preparing everything behind the scenes. The tea and coffee stations are being set up, catering is being organised, exhibits are looking their best, and the bar is being fully stocked and ready to go.
A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers and staff who put in so much effort to ensure every group has a fantastic experience. We can't wait to welcome everyone through the doors and share our passion for sharks, diving, exploration, and ocean conservation.
If you see the lights on and plenty of activity around the museum this week, you'll know why! www.foxtozermuseum.com

Happy National Megalodon Day!
Yesterday, June 15th, was National Megalodon Day, celebrating one of the most incredible predators ever to roam our oceans!

Pictured here are two of our wonderful museum volunteers, Kansas and Aidan, holding a real Megalodon tooth alongside our impressive replica Megalodon jaw. It's always amazing to see people's reactions when they realise just how enormous these prehistoric sharks were.

The Rodney Fox & Mark Tozer Museum and Research Centre is home to several genuine Megalodon teeth on display, allowing visitors to get up close to a fascinating piece of natural history.
And when it comes to Megalodons, our volunteer Aidan is an absolute wealth of knowledge! His passion for prehistoric sharks and ancient oceans is infectious, and he's always happy to share fascinating facts about these legendary giants.

If you've ever wondered what it would have been like to encounter a shark the size of a bus, come and visit us and discover the world of the mighty Megalodon! www.foxtozermuseum.com

We were delighted to welcome award-winning Australian/French underwater photographer Vanessa Mignon to the Rodney Fox & Mark Tozer Museum and Research Centre this week.

Vanessa is highly respected within the underwater photography world, with her stunning images published internationally and recognised through numerous awards.

Mark has had the pleasure of knowing Vanessa for several years, making it especially enjoyable to personally guide her through the museum.
During her visit, Mark showcased many of the museum's newest exhibits, sharing the stories behind the collection and some of the latest additions that continue to inspire visitors to appreciate and protect our oceans.

Thank you for visiting, Vanessa. It was wonderful to have you at the museum, and we look forward to seeing you again soon! www.foxtozermuseum.com

Happy Birthday to Jacques Cousteau!

Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Jacques Cousteau, one of the world's greatest ocean explorers, filmmakers, and conservationists.

Born on June 11, 1910, Cousteau inspired generations to discover the wonders hidden beneath the waves. As co-inventor of the Aqua-Lung, his work helped make scuba diving accessible to people around the world and opened a window into the underwater world that few had ever seen before.

Through his films, books, and research vessel Calypso, Cousteau introduced millions to the beauty of our oceans and became a passionate voice for marine conservation long before it was a global movement.

His influence can still be seen today in divers, ocean explorers, researchers, and museums around the world that continue to share the story of our underwater heritage.

Thank you, Jacques Cousteau, for inspiring us to explore, understand, and protect the ocean.

"People protect what they love." Jacques Cousteau

While Mark has been away all weekend in Portland, Victoria, diving 100-year-old standard dress diving equipment with the Historical Diving Society Asia Pacific, we thought it was only fitting to showcase one of his favourite displays in the museum.

On display is this stunning original Siebe Gorman diving helmet, complete with matching boots and canvas diving suit. The helmet itself is over 100 years old and represents a remarkable piece of diving history from an era when divers explored the underwater world with courage, skill, and a lot less technology than we have today.

These iconic helmets helped build the foundations of commercial, military, and scientific diving, and we're proud to have this incredible piece of history on display for visitors to see up close. www.foxtozermuseum.com

A Big Warm Welcome to Aidan!

We are thrilled to welcome Aidan Ng as our latest volunteer at the Rodney Fox & Mark Tozer Museum and Research Centre.

Aidan is a passionate paleo-art enthusiast and lifelong explorer of the ancient oceans. His fascination with extinct marine life began as a child, inspired by shark documentaries, aquariums, and classic creature features. Over the years, that curiosity has grown into an impressive knowledge of prehistoric sharks, especially the mighty Megalodon, as well as ancient whales and marine ecosystems.

In fact, what Aidan doesn't know about Megalodons probably isn't worth knowing! His enthusiasm for shark history, paleontology, and ocean education is infectious, and we're excited to have him sharing that knowledge with our visitors.

Please join us in giving Aidan a very warm welcome to the museum family. We know he's going to be a fantastic addition to the team! www.foxtozermuseum.com

PHOTOGRAPHER WANTED!
We're looking for a keen photographer who might be willing to volunteer some time to help us photograph the displays and artefacts at the Museum.

As part of our new website, we'd love to showcase many of the museum displays online so visitors from around the world can see some of the amazing stories, artefacts, shark exhibits, diving history and ocean conservation displays that make the museum so unique.

Many of the items are displayed in glass cases, which can make photography a little challenging due to reflections and lighting. As 90% of Mark's photography experience is underwater photographing sharks, shipwrecks and marine life, museum photography isn't exactly his strong point!

If you have photography experience and would like to help preserve and share this amazing collection, we'd love to hear from you.

Please send Amanda an email at [email protected] or send us a message.

Help us bring the museum to life online and share these incredible stories with the world. www.foxtozermuseum.com

Did you know?
Tucked away in the museum is a comfortable bench and reading area where visitors can browse through decades of shark-related newspaper articles and media reports, from the 1990s right through to today.
As you read through them, you'll notice a common theme sadly, many stories focus on shark attacks or portray sharks in a negative light.
Yet these incredible animals play a vital role in keeping our oceans healthy and balanced. It's a fascinating glimpse into how sharks have been represented in the media over the years, and it often sparks some interesting conversations about perception versus reality.
Next time you visit, take a seat, have a read, and see what you think! www.foxtozermuseum.com

When it's cold and rainy outside, there's nothing better than being warm and cosy inside the museum.
Today, Patsy treated us all to a delicious homemade pumpkin soup with crispy fresh bread the perfect meal for a winter's day.
It's little things like this that make the museum feel like more than just a workplace. Thanks, Patsy, for keeping us all warm and well-fed!
